Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Countdown to the Last Day Why does God mention the catching of 153 Great Fish in His Word, the Bible? Does the storm of Acts 27, in which 276 men were saved, show the duration of the Great Tribulation period of 8,400 days (276 months)? How does the example of Elijah calling fire down from Heaven upon the 2/3 (of the 153 men) relate to the 153 days of the End? Is the 153 days from May 21, 2011 to October 21, 2011 significant, since it ends on the Last Day of the Feast of Tabernacles, that Great Day? Will the houses of worship experience an overthrow similar to Christ expelling the moneychangers from the temple; is the overthrow of Sodom related to the overthrow of the fallen houses of worship? What comes forth from the bottomless pit during the final five months of history according to Revelation 9? Does God's covenant with Day and Night allow salvation to continue to the last day? Since 1,000 years are as a day with the Lord, is the 7,000th anniversary of the flood in the year 2011 significant? What did the waters of Noah's flood represent as they increased greatly and prevailed for 150 days? Why are the Biblical numbers 17, 19, 21, 23, 37, 42, 51, 84, 153 & 276 so important during the time of Great Tribulation and after? Is May 21, 2011 or October 21, 2011 the most likely time of the rapture? Will Satan (the Northern) be removed before the final 153 days? Are we all months away from the greatest event in human history? Yes, we are at the precipice of the great day, in which Christ is coming in power and great glory! The final 153 days of 2011 A.D. are May 21, 2011-October 21, 2011!

The book has generated widely differing interpretations, yet Revelation has surprisingly not been the focus of many single-volume reference works. The Oxford Handbook of the Book of Revelation fills a need in the study of this controversial book. Thirty essays by leading scholars from around the world orient readers to the major currents in the study of Revelation. Divided into five sections-Literary Features, Social Setting, Theology and Ethics, History of Reception and Influence, and Currents in Interpretation-the essays identify the major lines of interpretation that have shaped discussion of these topics, and then work through the aspects of those topics that are most significant and hold greatest promise for future research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How, as historians, should we 'read' a film? Histories on Screen answers this and other questions in a crucial volume for any history student keen to master source use. The book begins with a theoretical 'Thinking about Film' section that explores the ways in which films can be analyzed and interrogated as either primary sources, secondary sources or indeed as both. The much larger 'Using Film' segment of the book then offers engaging case studies which put this theory into practice. Topics including gender, class, race, war, propaganda, national identity and memory all receive good coverage in what is an eclectic multi-contributor volume. Documentaries, films and television from Britain and the United States are examined and there is a jargon-free emphasis on the skills and methods needed to analyze films in historical study featuring prominently throughout the text. Histories on Screen is a vital resource for all history students as it enables them to understand film as a source and empowers them with the analytical tools needed to use that knowledge in their own work.

Book excerpt: This book was originally intended to be (a 3 Volume set or Trilogy, but has been shortened to a single volume and edited for publication as a single title), Not afraid To Tell The Truth which could be subtitled: Exposing the conspiracy of silence in the Last Days, it is not a book about discipleship necessarily, nor is it a book you could use as a guideline for counseling; rather it is a book written with the intention of shedding light upon (13) contrasting themes running through the whole of Gods Word, which the author believes have become confused by Western Christian wrong thinking, preaching and practice in the last days of the Church age*. False teachers and heretical teachings have crept into the Church unawares bringing with it a form of captivity similar to the captivity of the nation Israel, but with far graver consequences.

Book excerpt: In just a decade, blogging changed from a fad to a phenomenon with an estimated 51 million participants, mostly creative citizens with something to say or express. Citizens who want to participate in media rather than be subjected to it. Blogothon is a selection of blogs and essays posted by raconteur par excellence, gadfly of the media, and "News Dissector" Danny Schechter in an award-winning daily blog that he began writing in 2000. In Blogothon Schechter demonstrates the importance of blogging as an alternative media in an age when mainstream media has come under increasing scrutiny for a lack of credibility, real news and social value. This compilation of Schechter's blog posts describes the financial crisis developed during the first decade of the 21st century, the influence of activists such as Martin Luther King and Jesse Jackson on Occupy Wall Street, the ascent of Al Jazeera, the expulsion of Helen Thomas and Keith Olbermann from mainstream media, and increased partisanship and polarization in U.S. politics. Blogothon is a fascinating read for followers of Schechter's blog, anyone interested in an authentic account of historic events still unfolding, and aspiring bloggers. A graduate of Cornell University and the London School of Economics, DANNY SCHECHTER is a writer, television producer, and independent filmmaker who also speaks about media and financial issues. He is the editor of Mediachannel1.org, the global media issues site, and blogs daily as the News Dissector at NewsDissector.net. Schechter is the author of fourteen books and has produced and directed more than thirty documentaries and television specials. His blog was named the 2009 "Blog of the Year" by the Hunter College Media Department of the City University of New York.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection provides an overview of China’s rural politics, bringing scholarship on agrarian politics from various social science disciplines together in one place. The twelve contributions, spanning history, anthropology, sociology, environmental studies, political science, and geography, address enduring questions in peasant studies, including the relationship between states and peasants, taxation, social movements, rural-urban linkages, land rights and struggles, gender relations, and environmental politics. Taking rural politics as the power-inflected processes and struggles that shape access and control over resources in the countryside, as well as the values, ideologies and discourses that shape those processes, the volume brings research on China into conversation with the traditions and concerns of peasant studies scholarship. It provides both an introduction to those unfamiliar with Chinese politics, as well as in-depth, new research for experts in the field. This book was published as a special issue of the Journal of Peasant Studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NASA commissioned the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) to conduct a thorough review of both the technical and the organizational causes of the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia and her crew on February 1, 2003. The accident investigation that followed determined that a large piece of insulating foam from Columbia's external tank (ET) had come off during ascent and struck the leading edge of the left wing, causing critical damage. The damage was undetected during the mission. The Columbia accident was not survivable. After the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) investigation regarding the cause of the accident was completed, further consideration produced the question of whether there were lessons to be learned about how to improve crew survival in the future. This investigation was performed with the belief that a comprehensive, respectful investigation could provide knowledge that can protect future crews in the worldwide community of human space flight. Additionally, in the course of the investigation, several areas of research were identified that could improve our understanding of both nominal space flight and future spacecraft accidents. This report is the first comprehensive, publicly available accident investigation report addressing crew survival for a human spacecraft mishap, and it provides key information for future crew survival investigations. The results of this investigation are intended to add meaning to the sacrifice of the crew's lives by making space flight safer for all future generations.
