It can be hard at times because parents expect kids to start helping at an early age. But, it also can be a great playground, a place of adventure and space to wander. I wrote this collection of stories as a way to share memories with my children and grandchildren. To relay some of my childhood experiences on an Iowa farm that was in our family for more than a hundred years. Snippets of some of these stories could be shared around the dining room table or during visits, but life sometimes gets busy with harried five-minute conversations, texts, emails and computer/smart phone face time. Writing this collection has been a way for me to bring back family and friends who have passed on but remain very vivid in my memory. It's my way of ensuring some of their stories will live long after I join them. Quite a few folks in these stories, who are close to my age and younger, are still alive. I hope I have treated them well and that they enjoy my meanderings down memory lane. Most of the stories take place from the late 1950s to early 1970s. This is the telling of one boy's experiences (mine) on one Iowa farm at one point in time. It doesn't reflect other farm kids' experiences. It is not supposed to. Every farm and every family is different. The farm boy stories are told as I remember them. Some are humorous, others nostalgic, and one is brutally honest. Most are about my adventures and misadventures. The conversations are reconstructed to the best of my memory and reflect most likely what was said at the time. I may have applied some "artistic" license, but not much. Some of the experiences were traumatic, humorous or sad and were burned into my brain. Writing about them has helped me relive those moments. If these stories revive memories in others who read this, I hope they are pleasant ones.

The texts represent a variety of genres, including formal narrative, continuous year-count annals, contribution records, genealogies, and land disputes. While the Kaqchikel Chronicles have been known to scholars for many years, this volume is the first and only translation of the texts in their entirety. He received the M.A. degree in secondary education from Humboldt State College, now Humboldt State University, Arcata, California, in 1960. He also did additional graduate studies at Purdue University, summer of 1955, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, 1956-1957. Mr. Oody began his teaching career in 1949 and has taught mathematics and/or physics in secondary schools in Tennessee, Kentucky, California and Liberia where he and his wife, Betty White Oody, served as Southern Baptist missionaries over a period of sixteen years. In 1955 Mr. Oody was ordained a Baptist deacon by the First Baptist church, Loudon, Tennessee. The following year he and Betty made their commitment to foreign missions, now called international missions. He has served as deacon, Sunday school director, Bible teacher, moderator of North Coast Baptist Association, California, and a member of the Executive Board of the California Baptist State Convention. In 1990 Mr. Oody was ordained to the gospel ministry by the First Baptist Church, Aptos, California, where he served as pastor for more than five years. In June of 1963 he retired from school teaching at Los Gatos High School, Los Gatos, California, where he taught mathematics for eleven years. This ended a teaching career of forty-four years. Mr. Oody was pastor at Parkway Baptist Church, Cleveland, Tennessee, from 2000 to 2004 and is now Pastor of Senior Adults at First Baptist Church, Loudon, Tennessee, his hometown. The Oodys have two married children. Mrs. Stinson (Arvilla) Humphrey, Hawaii, and Thomas (Tom) Eugene Oody, Jr., Vestal, New York. Arvilla is married to Dr. Stinson E. Humphrey and they have three children: Rachel, married to Josh Voorhees, Dr. Carol Campbell, married to Dr. Lance Campbell and John Humphrey, engaged to Miss Katy Jongeward. Tom is married to Debbie Beam Oody. Rachel and Josh have the Oody's first great-grandchild, one year-old Sadie Anna Voorhees.

Happy Days, the semi-official newspaper of the CCC, and other such publications served as soundings boards for opinions among the CCC enrollees, encouraged and instructed the men as they assumed their new roles, and generally supported the aims of Roosevelt's New Deal program. Happy Days also encouraged and instructed editors in the production of camp newspapers--well over 5,000 were published by almost 3,000 of the CCC companies from 1933 to 1942. This book considers all phases of life in the CCC throughout its existence from various perspectives, and analyzes the history of CCC camp journalism.
