Book excerpt: We study secret communication over the discrete memoryless multiple-access channel with the following cooperation strategies: (i) degraded message sets, (ii) a common message, (iii) conferencing, (iv) cribbing, (v) feedback, and (vi) generalized feedback. For developing strong secrecy results, we utilize the methods and techniques of channel resolvability, which involves the characterization of the amount of randomness required at the inputs of the channel to approximately produce a chosen i.i.d. output distribution. For the multiple-access with degraded message sets, a common message, conferencing and feedback, we exactly characterize the channel resolvability region. For the multiple access channel with cribbing, we exactly characterize the channel resolvability region for the causal cribbing and non-causal cribbing scenarios. For the strictly-causal cribbing scenario, inner and outer bounds are provided. For the multiple-access channel with generalized feedback, we provide two inner bounds representing the role of decoding and randomness extraction, which can also be combined. Finally, leveraging the resolvability results, we derive achievable strong secrecy rate regions for each of the cooperation scenarios.

Book excerpt: Following a detailed overview of cooperative communications and the physical layer security, this book proposes relay and jammer selection schemes for security in one-way cooperative networks and to improve physical layer security in two-way cooperative networks. It also proposes a Cooperative Hybrid Self-Healing scheme to enhance the confidentiality of the data collected by UWSN. It ends with a proposal called Self-Healing Cluster Controlled Mobility (SH-CCM) scheme based on hybrid cooperation between both Proactive and Reactive peers and the sick sensors at both network and cluster levels to guarantee the security in UWSN.

Book excerpt: Cooperative and relay communications have recently become the most widely explored topics in communications, whereby users cooperate in transmitting their messages to the destination, instead of conventional networks which operate independently and compete among each other for channel resources. As the field has progressed, cooperative communications have become a design concept rather than a specific transmission technology. This concept has revolutionized the design of wireless networks, allowing increased coverage, throughput, and transmission reliability even as conventional transmission techniques gradually reach their limits. Cooperative and relay technologies have also made their way toward next generation wireless standards, such as IEEE802.16 (WiMAX) or LTE, and have been incorporated into many modern wireless applications, such as cognitive radio and secret communications. Cooperative Communications and Networking: Technologies and System Design provides a systematic introduction to the fundamental concepts of cooperative communications and relays technology to enable engineers, researchers or graduate students to conduct advanced research and development in this area. Cooperative Communications and Networking: Technologies and System Design provides researchers, graduate students, and practical engineers with sufficient knowledge of both the background of cooperative communications and networking, and potential research directions.

Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview for physical layer security in wireless cooperative networks, including fundamental concepts, typical solutions, and some recent achievements. It investigates the secrecy performance with respect to time reversal transmission and multi-antenna spatial modulation techniques. Both of which are proposed as effective physical layer processing schemes in wireless multipath channel environment. Resource allocation strategies to enhance secrecy performance in D2D communications are also discussed in this book. It contributes to formulating user social behaviors and utilizing social characteristics to improve the secrecy performance in wireless cooperative networks. This book not only analyzes the secrecy enhancement with certain techniques, but also pursues to find the relationships or tradeoffs among the secrecy performance, energy consumption, channel conditions, and other essential factors in wireless communications. This book targets researchers and professionals specializing in electronic engineering, computer science, wireless communications and networks. Advanced level students in electrical engineering and computer science will also find this book useful as a secondary text.
