Book Synopsis Introduction to Linear Control Systems by : Yazdan Bavafa-Toosi
Download or read book Introduction to Linear Control Systems written by Yazdan Bavafa-Toosi and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-09-19 with total page 1135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Linear Control Systems is designed as a standard introduction to linear control systems for all those who one way or another deal with control systems. It can be used as a comprehensive up-to-date textbook for a one-semester 3-credit undergraduate course on linear control systems as the first course on this topic at university. This includes the faculties of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemical and petroleum engineering, industrial engineering, civil engineering, bio-engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, management and social sciences, etc. The book covers foundations of linear control systems, their raison detre, different types, modelling, representations, computations, stability concepts, tools for time-domain and frequency-domain analysis and synthesis, and fundamental limitations, with an emphasis on frequency-domain methods. Every chapter includes a part on further readings where more advanced topics and pertinent references are introduced for further studies. The presentation is theoretically firm, contemporary, and self-contained. Appendices cover Laplace transform and differential equations, dynamics, MATLAB and SIMULINK, treatise on stability concepts and tools, treatise on Routh-Hurwitz method, random optimization techniques as well as convex and non-convex problems, and sample midterm and endterm exams. The book is divided to the sequel 3 parts plus appendices. PART I: In this part of the book, chapters 1-5, we present foundations of linear control systems. This includes: the introduction to control systems, their raison detre, their different types, modelling of control systems, different methods for their representation and fundamental computations, basic stability concepts and tools for both analysis and design, basic time domain analysis and design details, and the root locus as a stability analysis and synthesis tool. PART II: In this part of the book, Chapters 6-9, we present what is generally referred to as the frequency domain methods. This refers to the experiment of applying a sinusoidal input to the system and studying its output. There are basically three different methods for representation and studying of the data of the aforementioned frequency response experiment: these are the Nyquist plot, the Bode diagram, and the Krohn-Manger-Nichols chart. We study these methods in details. We learn that the output is also a sinusoid with the same frequency but generally with different phase and magnitude. By dividing the output by the input we obtain the so-called sinusoidal or frequency transfer function of the system which is the same as the transfer function when the Laplace variable s is substituted with . Finally we use the Bode diagram for the design process. PART III: In this part, Chapter 10, we introduce some miscellaneous advanced topics under the theme fundamental limitations which should be included in this undergraduate course at least in an introductory level. We make bridges between some seemingly disparate aspects of a control system and theoretically complement the previously studied subjects. Appendices: The book contains seven appendices. Appendix A is on the Laplace transform and differential equations. Appendix B is an introduction to dynamics. Appendix C is an introduction to MATLAB, including SIMULINK. Appendix D is a survey on stability concepts and tools. A glossary and road map of the available stability concepts and tests is provided which is missing even in the research literature. Appendix E is a survey on the Routh-Hurwitz method, also missing in the literature. Appendix F is an introduction to random optimization techniques and convex and non-convex problems. Finally, appendix G presents sample midterm and endterm exams, which are class-tested several times.
Book Synopsis Uncertainty-aware Integration of Control with Process Operations and Multi-parametric Programming Under Global Uncertainty by : Vassilis M. Charitopoulos
Download or read book Uncertainty-aware Integration of Control with Process Operations and Multi-parametric Programming Under Global Uncertainty written by Vassilis M. Charitopoulos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces models and methodologies that can be employed towards making the Industry 4.0 vision a reality within the process industries, and at the same time investigates the impact of uncertainties in such highly integrated settings. Advances in computing power along with the widespread availability of data have led process industries to consider a new paradigm for automated and more efficient operations. The book presents a theoretically proven optimal solution to multi-parametric linear and mixed-integer linear programs and efficient solutions to problems such as process scheduling and design under global uncertainty. It also proposes a systematic framework for the uncertainty-aware integration of planning, scheduling and control, based on the judicious coupling of reactive and proactive methods. Using these developments, the book demonstrates how the integration of different decision-making layers and their simultaneous optimisation can enhance industrial process operations and their economic resilience in the face of uncertainty.

Book Synopsis Optimization of Solution Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate by : Woon Phui Law
Download or read book Optimization of Solution Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate written by Woon Phui Law and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, optimization of reactor and jacket dynamics were carried out for the solution polymerization of MMA with toluene in batch reactor. The purpose of this study is to optimize the process condition in polymerization in order to obtain maximum conversion in minimum batch time. The gel effect, glass effect, non-linear kinetic and high exothermic reactions were considered. Initiator efficiency and overall heat transfer coefficient assumed remain constant. Optimization of MMA solution polymerization was based on three stage polymerization model (TSPM) by using MATLAB software. Ode23t solver was used in solving this moderate stiff problem. The results showed that high conversion was obtained at optimum concentration of initiator (AIBN), reactor temperature and jacket temperature. Simulation of the solution polymerization of MMA in this study showed that MATLAB was an effective and economical problem solving tools in engineering works.

Book Synopsis Modelling of Chemical Reaction Systems by : K.H. Ebert
Download or read book Modelling of Chemical Reaction Systems written by K.H. Ebert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For rather a long time numerical results in chemical kinetics could only be obtained for very simple chemical reactions, most of which were of minor practi ca 1 importance. The avail abil ity of fast computers has provi ded new opportunities for developments in chemical kinetics. Chemical systems of practical interest are usually very complicated. They consi st of a great number of different el ementary chemi cal reacti ons, mostly with rate constants differi ng by many orders of magni tude, frequently with surface reacti on steps and often wi th transport processes. The deri vati on of a 'true' chemical mechani sm can be extremely cumbersome. Mostly this work is done by setting up 'reaction models' which are im proved step by step in comparison with precise experimental data. At this early stage mathematics is involved, which may al ready be rather complicated. Mathematical methods such as pertubation theory, graph theory, sensitivity analysis or numerical integration are necessary for the derivation and application of optimal chemical reaction models. Most theoretical work aimed at improving the mathematical methods was done on chemical reactions which mostly were of little practical im portance. Chemi cal engi neers, who evi dently k now well how important the chemical model s and their dynamics are for reactor desi gn, have al so to be convinced not only on the theoretical work but also on its practical applic abil ity.
