Book excerpt: El objetivo fundamental de la tesis es el diseño y validación experimental de un sistema de Control Activo Acústico Estructural (CAAE), para reducir el ruido de baja frecuencia radiado por una placa delgada en condiciones de contorno simple. Gran parte de la investigación se dedica al estudio y comparación experimental de las prestaciones de control que ofrecen diferentes sensores de error, acústicos y estructurales puntuales y distribuidos. El trabajo contribuye con el diseño teórico e implementación práctica de un sensor modal, diseñado para medir el desplazamiento volúmico de la placa considerada, en un margen de baja frecuencia. Dicho sensor está formado por dos tiras de PVDF en cruz, cuyas geometrías son proporcionales a las formas propias de la placa, estimadas con el modelo elaborado. La respuesta en frecuencias de dicho sensor, una vez adherido a la estructura, confirma la validez del planteamiento teórico realizado para su diseño. El prototipo CAAE optimizado consta de unos componentes acústicos-estructurales y electrónicos, para reducir la radiación al campo lejano. Con una fuente primaria de fuerza (vibrador) se excita la placa a distintas frecuencias. Se utiliza la salida de cada uno de los sensores de error citados como función de coste a minimizar. Dos actuadotes piezoeléctricos dobles, posicionados simétricamente sobre la placa, ejercen la vibración secundaria que contrarresta la inicial. El controlador, procesa las señales de entrada (referencia y error) y genera la señal que alimenta las fuentes secundarias, hasta optimizar la minimización de la señal de error. El control CAAE implementado es satisfactorio en todos los casos analizados y revela que el sensor distribuido diseñado es idóneo para este tipo de aplicaciones. Se comprueba que el control tradicional, con un altavoz como fuente de control y un micrófono de error, es menos apropiado.
