Le fonctionnement de ces composants doit être optimisé sur une grande dynamique de puissance de sortie. C'est pourquoi une nouvelle technique d'optimisation est développée : "amplificateur à polarisation dynamique adaptative". Elle consiste à injecter, au niveau du circuit de polarisation de base des transistors HBT constituant l'amplificateur de puissance, un signal qui est fonction de l'enveloppe du signal à amplifier et de la puissance de sortie. Ce signal peut être calculé dans la partie numérique du terminal mobile. Un nouveau banc de caractérisation a été conçu pour déterminer les signaux de polarisation optimaux. Un prototype a été réalisé en technologie hybride. Celui-ci permet de valider la technique développée. De plus, une conception monolithique a été développée pour démontrer son intégrabilité.

L'objectif est d'obtenir un modèle de l'amplificateur de puissance permettant de rendre compte des performances globales d'une chaîne de communication pour des signaux de modulation numérique (simulation système) à partir de données expérimentales ou simulées en mono-porteuse ou bi-porteuses. A partir d'un modèle générique, dit sans mémoire, nous avons peu à peu affiné la modélisation du comportement de l'amplificateur pour rendre compte, dans un premier temps, des effets de mémoire HF puis, dans un second temps, des effets de mémoires HF et BF. Ainsi, le modèle développé permet de ren-dre compte des performances d'un amplificateur fonctionnant dans un contexte de communica-tion à large bande et à haut débit. Nous avons complété l'étude de la modélisation par une formulation analytique rigoureuse permettant de caractériser quantitativement le rehaussement spectral d'un signal modulé (AC-PR), utilisé en communication mobile, en sortie de l'amplificateur de puissance.

De ce fait, la procédure actuelle de conception d’antennes de téléphones mobiles intègre toujours une phase importante de « trial et error » en utilisant des logiciels de simulation numérique ou des outils de mesure. La bande passante en espace libre est souvent considérée comme le critère de décision central. Une nouvelle méthode permettant d’optimiser simultanément les performances en espace libre et en présence de fantôme était appliquée. Il s’agissait de changer le critère de décision central en mettant l’accent sur le rapport TRP / DAS, et de rattraper la bande passante par d’autres moyens, plus particulièrement focalisée sur l’aspect de la technique de l’adaptation. A cette fin, les limites d’adaptation entre le coefficient de réflexion et la bande passante après l’ajout d’un circuit d’adaptation pour un téléphone mobile mono- et bi-bande ont été déduites. Ces limites donnent une idée des degrés de liberté dans la conception d’antenne d’un téléphone mobile. Cette thèse a donc abouti sur une méthode pratique pour obtenir un bon compromis entre les contraintes rayonnées et propagations guidées des téléphones mobiles, à l’aide de réseaux d’ adaptation et en tenant compte de toute la chaîne de transmission radio jusqu’à l’amplificateur de puissance.

Principalement déterminé par la consommation d'énergie du transmetteur, il est plus particulièrement lié à celle de l'amplificateur de puissance (PA). Pour les terminaux mobiles de 4ème génération (4G), les techniques de transmission et les modulations utilisées pour atteindre les débits de données visés induisant une dynamique importante du signal à transmettre, l'implémentation de techniques d'amélioration du rendement autour du PA devient indispensable, afin de le reconfigurer en puissance.Nous avons mis au point dans ce travail de recherche des architectures innovantes utilisant les techniques d'amélioration du Power Cell Switching (PCS) et de l'Envelope Tracking (ET). Le double objectif visé étant d'améliorer significativement le rendement pour les faibles niveaux de puissance et d'apporter de la flexibilité par rapport à un PA utilisé seul. Une première architecture utilisant la technique du PCS totalement intégré en technologie CMOS 65nm de STMicroelectronics, mettant en œuvre des transformateurs comme combineurs de puissance, a été réalisée pour valider la fonctionnalité du concept proposé. Puis une deuxième architecture combinant les techniques du PCS et de l'ET a été conçue, afin d'évaluer les avantages qu'apporte la combinaison de ces deux techniques par rapport à un PA fonctionnant seul et à un PA développé utilisant la technique du PCS.
