A cet effet, des comparaisons ont été faites entre différentes méthodes de prédétermination de l'évolution d'un tourbillon dans son processus d'éclatement. Ces méthodes sont fondées sur l'hypothèse d'axisymètrie, et sur un traitement statistique classique de la turbulence avec fermeture en un point. Une confrontation du calcul avec l'expérience permet de vérifier le réalisme de la théorie et de valider les modèles de turbulence. D'autre part, une étude expérimentale, en soufflerie, a été réalisée afin de quantifier l'influence de la turbulence sur le développement d'un tourbillon non éclaté, en utilisant un dispositif produisant un tourbillon de bout d'aile. La structure interne du tourbillon présente, au centre, une survitesse qui diminue selon la direction longitudinale. Le champ de vitesse extérieur est bien représenté par un tourbillon potentiel.
