Les calculs des différentes énergies et travaux virtuels des différents éléments d'un rotor dont le support est soumis à un mouvement quelconque ont été développés pour la première fois en tenant compte des possibles asymétries de l'arbre ou des disques. Un modèle simple a été défini à partir de la méthode de Rayleigh-Ritz afin d'étudier des phénomènes de base. Pour traiter des systèmes réels, une modélisation par éléments finis a été développée. Les équations non-linéaires du mouvement ont été obtenues par application des équations de Lagrange. Les phénomènes de base relatifs à la dynamique des rotors dont le support est en mouvement ont été étudiés sur le modèle simple. Diverses études analytiques ont été effectuées sur des mouvements simples : translation simple, translation sinusoïdale, rotation constante, rotation accélérée. Pour tous ces mouvements, les équations de déformation restent linéaires. Par contre, sur un mouvement simple de rotation sinusoïdale, des termes paramétriques viennent s'ajouter dans les équations. Une étude d'instabilité a donc été réalisée sur ce mouvement à l'aide de la méthode des échelles multiples. Cette méthode a permis de déterminer les zones d'instabilité. Une résolution pas-à-pas a été utilisée pour vérifier ces zones d'instabilité sur le modèle de Rayleigh-Ritz. Un dispositif expérimental a été créé en vue de tester le modèle développé à l'aide de la méthode des éléments finis. Le mouvement principalement étudié a été le mouvement de rotation sinusoïdale qui semblait le plus intéressant au vu des phénomènes décris à l'aide du modèle simple. Le recalage des fréquences de résonance du système a été réalisé en ajustant les raideurs de palier. L'étude d'un rotor embarqué sur un support flexible ne semble donc pas une priorité. Le recalage de l'amortissement réalisé sur une étude de chocs angulaires a montré que la modélisation obtenue était très bonne en répartissant l'amortissement structural sur les paliers. Après le recalage, les comparaisons entre simulations numériques et résultats expérimentaux sur les amplitudes de déformation de l'arbre et sur les orbites particulières observées ont démontré que le modèle éléments finis proposé permet d'obtenir de très bonnes prédictions sur le comportement dynamique en flexion d'un rotor embarqué.

The first of the book's four parts introduces the basic mathematical apparatus: second quantization, canonical transformations, Wick theorems and the resulting diagram expansions, and oscillator models. The second part presents mean field approximations and the recently developed path integral methods for the quantization of collective modes. Part three develops perturbation theory in terms of both time-dependent Feynman diagrams and time-independent Goldstone diagrams. A fourth part discusses variational methods based on correlated wavefunctions, including spin correlations. The approximation schemes are formulated for fermions and bosons at eigher zero or non-zero temperature. Although the formalism developed applies to both finite and infinite systems, the book stresses those aspects of the theory that are specific to the description of finite systems. Thus special attention is given to mean field approximations, the ensuing broken symmetries, and the associated collective motions such as rotations. Conversely, some specific features of systems with infinite numbers of degrees of freedom (such as the thermodynamic limit, critical phenomena, and the elimination of ultraviolet divergencies) are deliberately omitted. Jean-Paul Blaizot and Georges Ripka are associated with the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay.
