Book Synopsis Anisotropy and Localization of Plastic Deformation by : J.P. Boehler
Download or read book Anisotropy and Localization of Plastic Deformation written by J.P. Boehler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present developments in materials science, mechanics and engineering, as well as the demands of modern technology, result in a new and growing interest in plasticity and in bordering domains of the mechanical behavior of materials. This growing interest is attested to by the success of both The International Journal of Plasticity, which after its inception rapidly became the leading journal for plasticity research, and the series ofInternational Symposia on Plasticity and Its Current Applications, which is now the premier international forum for plasticity research dissemination. The First International Symposium on Plasticity and Its Current Applications was conceived and organized by Professor Akhtar S. Khan, and was held at the University of Oklahoma (Norman, Oklahoma, USA) from July 30 to August 3, 1984. It was attended by over one hundred scientists from fifteen countries. "Plasticity '89: the Second International Symposium on Plasticity and Its Current Applications" was held at Mie University (Tsu, Japan) from July 31 to August 4, 1989; this symposium was co-chaired by Professors Khan and Tokuda. The main emphasis of this meeting was on dynamic plasticity and micromechanics, although it included other aspects of plasticity as well. It was attended by over two hundred researchers from twenty-three nations.
Book Synopsis Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems by : K.L. Reifsnider
Download or read book Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems written by K.L. Reifsnider and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite material systems are the basis for much of the natural world around us and are rapidly becoming the basis for many modern engineering components. A controlling feature for the general use of such systems is their damage tolerance, durability and reliability. The present book is a comprehensive cross section of the state of the art in the field of the durability of polymer-based, composite, and adhesive systems. As such, it is of special value to researchers concerned with the frontier of the field, to students concerned with the substance of the subject, and to the applied community concerned with the finding methodologies that make it possible to design safe and durable engineering components using material systems.
Book Synopsis Geomechanics in CO2 Storage Facilities by : Gilles Pijaudier-Cabot
Download or read book Geomechanics in CO2 Storage Facilities written by Gilles Pijaudier-Cabot and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-01-29 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CO2 capture and geological storage is seen as the most effective technology to rapidly reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Up until now and before proceeding to an industrial development of this technology, laboratory research has been conducted for several years and pilot projects have been launched. So far, these studies have mainly focused on transport and geochemical issues and few studies have been dedicated to the geomechanical issues in CO2 storage facilities. The purpose of this book is to give an overview of the multiphysics processes occurring in CO2 storage facilities, with particular attention given to coupled geomechanical problems. The book is divided into three parts. The first part is dedicated to transport processes and focuses on the efficiency of the storage complex and the evaluation of possible leakage paths. The second part deals with issues related to reservoir injectivity and the presence of fractures and occurrence of damage. The final part of the book concerns the serviceability and ageing of the geomaterials whose poromechanical properties may be altered by contact with the injected reactive fluid.

Book Synopsis Computer Simulation in Materials Science by : H.O. Kirchner
Download or read book Computer Simulation in Materials Science written by H.O. Kirchner and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-01-31 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades to come, the limits to computing power will not allow atomistic simulations of macroscopic specimens. Simulations can only be performed on various scales (nano, meso, micro and macro) using the input provided by simulations (or data) on the next smaller scale. The resulting hierarchy has been the focus of many seminars and lectures. Necessarily, special emphasis has been placed on mesoscopic simulations, bridging the gaps between nano (atomic) and micro space and time scales. The contributors to Computer Simulation in Materials Science consider both fundamental problems and applications. Papers on the evolution of morphological patterns in phase transformations and plastic deformation, irradiation effects, mass transport and mechanical properties of materials in general highlight what has already been achieved. It is concluded that computer simulations must be based on realistic and efficient models: the fundamental equations controlling the dynamical evolution of microstructures, stochastic field kinetic models, being a case in point. The mesoscopic approach has proved particularly effective in plastic deformation and work hardening. On the mesoscopic scale, the contributions made to the deformation of polycrystals and localized plastic flow show the importance of computing power in ongoing and future research.
