Book Synopsis On Spoken French by : William J. Ashby
Download or read book On Spoken French written by William J. Ashby and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2023-03-15 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This scholarly edition invites us to reconsider our assumptions about the French language, by showcasing the oeuvre of one of the pioneers of diachronic Spoken French corpus linguistics, William J. Ashby, and the ground-breaking findings to come out of his influential Tours corpora (1976 & 1995), including two real-time studies appearing for the first time in English translation. To help readers visualize just how radically different the morphosyntax, morphophonology, and semantics of Spoken French are from French-on-the-page, the editor has developed a glossing framework, designed to capture the systemic, radically-prefixal morphology of Spoken French and the variability of change-in-progress. The model, presented here and used to gloss the examples from the Tours corpus, is also suitable for corpus-tagging. The volume is organized into sections preceded by an Editor’s note and followed by suggestions for further reading, and closes with an appendix of French corpora. This scholarly edition was written for advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and scholars in the field.
Book Synopsis Standardization, Ideology and Linguistics by : N. Armstrong
Download or read book Standardization, Ideology and Linguistics written by N. Armstrong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-14 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors explore some of the ways in which standardization, ideology and linguistics are interrelated. Through a number of case studies they show how concepts such as grammaticality and structural change covertly rely on a false conceptualization of language, one that derives ultimately from standardization.
Book Synopsis Aspects of (Post)Colonial Linguistics by : Daniel Schmidt-Brücken
Download or read book Aspects of (Post)Colonial Linguistics written by Daniel Schmidt-Brücken and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in Colonial and Postcolonial Linguistics has experienced a significant increase in contributions from varying fields of language studies, gaining the attention of scholars from all over the world. This volume aims to showcase the variety of topics relevant to the study of language(s) in colonial, postcolonial and decolonial contexts. A main reason of this variety is that the new paradigm invites and necessitates research on different subject matters such as language typology, grammar and cross-linguistics, meta-linguistics and research on language ideology, discourse analysis and pragmatics. The contributions of this volume are selected, peer-reviewed papers which were partly invited and partly given at the First Bremen Conference on Colonial and Postcolonial Linguistics, held in September 2013.
Book Synopsis Contacts de langues by : Jacqueline Billiez
Download or read book Contacts de langues written by Jacqueline Billiez and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2003 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis A Bibliography on Writing and Written Language by : Konrad Ehlich
Download or read book A Bibliography on Writing and Written Language written by Konrad Ehlich and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 2896 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bibliography offers information on research about writing and written language over the past 50 years. No comprehensive bibliography on this subject has been published since Sattler's (1935) handbook. With a selection of some 27,500 titles it covers the most important literature in all scientific fields relating to writing. Emphasis has been placed on the interdisciplinary organization of the bibliography, creating many points of common interest for literacy experts, educationalists, psychologists, sociologists, linguists, cultural anthropologists, and historians. The bibliography is organized in such a way as to provide the specialist as well as the researcher in neighboring disciplines with access to the relevant literature on writing in a given field. While necessarily selective, it also offers information on more specialized bibliographies. In addition, an overview of norms and standards concerning 'script and writing' will prove very useful for non-professional readers. It is, therefore, also of interest to the generally interested public as a reference work for the humanities.
