Book Synopsis Construct Validity of Four Self-concept Constructs by : Karla Klein Voyten
Download or read book Construct Validity of Four Self-concept Constructs written by Karla Klein Voyten and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The construct and discriminative validity of measures assessing global self-esteem, generalized self-efficacy, psychological hardiness, and instrumentality was explored. Measures theorized to assess these constructs were subjected to an all-item factor analysis along with a measure of negative affect, as negative affect was theorized to be an underlying factor of the afore named constructs. Participants were 529 university students. Three factors were extracted, in the all item exploratory factor analysis, with an oblique rotation, explaining 54% of the total variance. The first factor, accounting for 28% of the total variance, was labeled "Negative Affect" as it contained all negative affect items, most global self-esteem items, and items assessing affective evaluations from the psychological hardiness and generalized self-efficacy scales. The second factor, accounting for 24% of the total variance, was labeled "Instrumentality" as it contained all instrumentality items, remaining global self-esteem items, and items from the psychological hardiness and generalized self-efficacy scales assessing instrumental personality characteristics. The third factor, accounting for 2% of the total variance, was labeled "Self-Efficacy" as it contained remaining items from the generalized self-efficacy scale only. Thus, the measures assessing negative affect and instrumentality exemplified excellent construct and discriminant validity closely followed by the measures assessing global self-esteem. Measures assessing generalized self-efficacy and psychological hardiness, however, were found to be redundant and multidimensional as they loaded across multiple factors, thus appearing to assess both affective state and instrumental personality characteristics.

Book Synopsis The Self-concept: A review of methodological considerations and measuring instruments by : Ruth C. Wylie
Download or read book The Self-concept: A review of methodological considerations and measuring instruments written by Ruth C. Wylie and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 1974-01-01 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first volume of two in the revised and greatly expanded edition of Professor Wylie's now classic work describes and evaluates measurement methods, research designs, and procedures which have been or might appropriately be used in self-concept research. Offering comprehensive treatment of the voluminous recent literature in the field, it constitutes a unique and invaluable guide to scholars and students of self theories and self-concept research. Many of the methodological issues considered here also have broader relevance for personality research and theory.
Book Synopsis Structural Equation Modeling With Lisrel, Prelis, and Simplis by : Barbara M. Byrne
Download or read book Structural Equation Modeling With Lisrel, Prelis, and Simplis written by Barbara M. Byrne and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates the ease with which various features of LISREL 8 and PRELIS 2 can be implemented in addressing research questions that lend themselves to SEM. Its purpose is threefold: (a) to present a nonmathmatical introduction to basic concepts associated with SEM, (b) to demonstrate basic applications of SEM using both the DOS and Windows versions of LISREL 8, as well as both the LISREL and SIMPLIS lexicons, and (c) to highlight particular features of the LISREL 8 and PRELIS 2 progams that address important caveats related to SEM analyses. This book is intended neither as a text on the topic of SEM, nor as a comprehensive review of the many statistical funcitons available in the LISREL 8 and PRELIS 2 programs. Rather, the intent is to provide a practical guide to SEM using the LISREL approach. As such, the reader is "walked through" a diversity of SEM applications that include both factor analytic and full latent variable models, as well as a variety of data management procedures.

Book Synopsis Measurement, Design, and Analysis by : Elazar J. Pedhazur
Download or read book Measurement, Design, and Analysis written by Elazar J. Pedhazur and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 835 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In textbooks and courses in statistics, substantive and measurement issues are rarely, if at all, considered. Similarly, textbooks and courses in measurement virtually ignore design and analytic questions, and research design textbooks and courses pay little attention to analytic and measurement issues. This fragmentary approach fosters a lack of appreciation of the interrelations and interdependencies among the various aspects of the research endeavor. Pedhazur and Schmelkin's goal is to help readers become proficient in these aspects of research and their interrelationships, and to use that information in a more integrated manner. The authors offer extensive commentaries on inputs and outputs of computer programs in the context of the topics presented. Both the organization of the book and the style of presentation allow for much flexibility in choice, sequence, and degree of sophistication with which topics are dealt.
Book Synopsis Test Development and Validation by : Gary Skaggs
Download or read book Test Development and Validation written by Gary Skaggs and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Test Development and Validation by Gary Skaggs summarizes the latest test theories, frameworks for test development and validation, and guidance for developing tests in straightforward language in one core text. Students looking for clear, concise explanations of measurement, validity, and test development within a real-world context and with numerous examples will find this book to be an excellent learning resource. Author Gary Skaggs takes years of experience teaching test development to graduate students across social and behavioral sciences and consulting on a wide variety of government and institutional research projects to offer students a thorough, jargon-free, and highly applied book to help propel their own research and careers. Part I of the book, The Big Picture, sets the stage for test development, placing it within the larger context and history of measurement, emphasizing measurement concepts and their evolution over time. Part II, Test Development, covers the technical details of instrument and test development in logical order. Validation, Part III, links the conceptual bases provided in Part I with the technical process provided in Part II to conclude the book. For those students wanting to go further, software suggestions are referenced in the technical chapters, while Further Reading sections offer the original sources for more details. Exercises and Activities at the end of each chapter provide students a variety of ways to apply their knowledge, from conceptual questions to brief project ideas to data analysis problems.
