This book was released on 2010-11-18 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about inductive databases and constraint-based data mining, emerging research topics lying at the intersection of data mining and database research. The aim of the book as to provide an overview of the state-of- the art in this novel and - citing research area. Of special interest are the recent methods for constraint-based mining of global models for prediction and clustering, the uni?cation of pattern mining approaches through constraint programming, the clari?cation of the re- tionship between mining local patterns and global models, and the proposed in- grative frameworks and approaches for inducive databases. On the application side, applications to practically relevant problems from bioinformatics are presented. Inductive databases (IDBs) represent a database view on data mining and kno- edge discovery. IDBs contain not only data, but also generalizations (patterns and models) valid in the data. In an IDB, ordinary queries can be used to access and - nipulate data, while inductive queries can be used to generate (mine), manipulate, and apply patterns and models. In the IDB framework, patterns and models become ”?rst-class citizens” and KDD becomes an extended querying process in which both the data and the patterns/models that hold in the data are queried.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data mining from traditional relational databases as well as from non-traditional ones such as semi-structured data, Web data, and scientific databases housing biological, linguistic, and sensor data has recently become a popular way of discovering hidden knowledge. This book on database support for data mining is developed to approaches exploiting the available database technology, declarative data mining, intelligent querying, and associated issues, such as optimization, indexing, query processing, languages, and constraints. Attention is also paid to the solution of data preprocessing problems, such as data cleaning, discretization, and sampling. The 16 reviewed full papers presented were carefully selected from various workshops and conferences to provide complete and competent coverage of the core issues. Some papers were developed within an EC funded project on discovering knowledge with inductive queries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A successful integration of constraint programming and data mining has the potential to lead to a new ICT paradigm with far reaching implications. It could change the face of data mining and machine learning, as well as constraint programming technology. It would not only allow one to use data mining techniques in constraint programming to identify and update constraints and optimization criteria, but also to employ constraints and criteria in data mining and machine learning in order to discover models compatible with prior knowledge. This book reports on some key results obtained on this integrated and cross- disciplinary approach within the European FP7 FET Open project no. 284715 on “Inductive Constraint Programming” and a number of associated workshops and Dagstuhl seminars. The book is structured in five parts: background; learning to model; learning to solve; constraint programming for data mining; and showcases.

The 16 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 49 submissions. The central theme was the mathematical formalization of concept and conceptual hierarchy. The field has developed into a constantly growing research area in its own right with a thriving theoretical community and an increasing number of applications in data and knowledge processing including disciplines such as data visualization, information retrieval, machine learning, software engineering, data analysis, data mining, social networks analysis, etc.

Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed joint postproceedings of the Third International Workshop on Knowledge Discovery in Inductive Databases, KDID 2004, held in Pisa, Italy in September 2004 in association with ECML/PKDD. Inductive Databases support data mining and the knowledge discovery process in a natural way. In addition to usual data, an inductive database also contains inductive generalizations, like patterns and models extracted from the data. This book presents nine revised full papers selected from 23 submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement together with one invited paper. Various current topics in knowledge discovery and data mining in the framework of inductive databases are addressed.

Book excerpt: The LNAI series reports state-of-the-art results in artificial intelligence research, development, and education, at a high level and in both printed and electronic form. Enjoying tight cooperation with the R & D community, with numerous individuals, as well as with prestigious organizations and societies, LNAI has grown into the most comprehensive artificial intelligence research forum available. The scope of LNAI spans the whole range of artificial intelligence and intelligent information processing including interdisciplinary topics in a variety of application fields. The type of material published traditionally includes proceedings (published in time for the respective conference) post-proceedings (consisting of thoroughly revised final full papers) research monographs (which may be based on PhD work) More recently, several color-cover sublines have been added featuring, beyond a collection of papers, various added-value components; these sublines include tutorials (textbook-like monographs or collections of lectures given at advance courses) state-of-the-art surveys (offering complete and mediated coverage of a topic) hot topics (introducing emergent topics to the broader community) In parallel to the printed book, each new volume is published electronically in LNCS Online.
