Book Synopsis Devonian Climate, Sea Level and Evolutionary Events by : R. T. Becker, 1st
Download or read book Devonian Climate, Sea Level and Evolutionary Events written by R. T. Becker, 1st and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The geological and palaeontological records of climate change and evolutionary events reflect Earth’s widely fluctuating climate systems. Past climates hold the clues to understanding future developments. In this context, research on linked climate, biodiversity and sea-level fluctuations of the Devonian contributes to the general knowledge of deep-time climate dynamics. A fruitful co-operation between the International Geoscience Programme IGCP 596 and the International Subcommission on Devonian Stratigraphy (SDS) addressed the complex succession of climate-linked Devonian global events of varying magnitude. The primary goal of IGCP 596 was to assess mid-Palaeozoic climate changes and their impact on marine and terrestrial biodiversity using an interdisciplinary approach. The focus of SDS includes a revision of the eustatic sea-level curve and the integration of refined chrono- and biostratigraphy with modern chemo-, magneto-, cyclo-, event- and sequence stratigraphy. This enabled the much improved dating and correlation of abiotic perturbations, evolutionary changes, organism and ecosystem ranges. Results by 37 authors are presented in 14 chapters, which cover the entire Devonian.

Download or read book Stratigraphy and Conodonts of Upper Silurian and Lower Devonian Rocks in the Environs of the Boothia Uplift, Canadian Arctic Archipelago written by R. Thorsteinsson and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1980 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Boothia Uplift is a major structural feature that extends north from Boothia Peninsula to the northwestern extremity of Devon Island. On Somerset Island and Boothia Peninsula it consists of Precambrian crystalline rocks and Proterozoic sediments that are flanked by Cambrian to Lower Devonian platform-type sedimentary rocks. This report deals with strata of Late Silurian to Early Devonian age, the time of the principal crustal movements that produced the Uplift." --

Book Synopsis Biostratigraphy and Conodont Faunas of Upper Ordovician Through Middle Devonian Rocks, Eastern Arctic Archipelago by : Teruya Uyeno
Download or read book Biostratigraphy and Conodont Faunas of Upper Ordovician Through Middle Devonian Rocks, Eastern Arctic Archipelago written by Teruya Uyeno and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The lower and middle Paleozoic strata of the eastern Arctic Archipelago change rapidly laterally from thin, shallow-water platform deposits to thicker, deeper water basinal deposits. The difficulty in correlating such strata has been overcome in part through well controlled conodont zonation, and by supplementary dating using palynomorphs and megafaunas. Such precise dating and correlation are essential for success in the search for petroleum and other mineral deposits. The study will also help refine calibration of the geological time scale in other parts of the world." --

This book was released on 1983 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The results of this study allow more precise correlations to be made with the classic Lower Silurian rocks of the Welsh Borderland in Great Britain, and will also facilitate making closer correlations between strata of this age in other sedimentary basins in Canada and elsewhere. Accurate dating of rocks is of great importance in assessing the hydrocarbon and other mineral potential of sedimentary basins." --
