Book excerpt: Introduction : Le programme national de développement des soins palliatifs 2008-2012 évoquait l'importance d'un développement de l'évaluation des soins palliatifs. Pour faire un programme d'amélioration des pratiques ciblé au Centre hospitalier de Cayenne, il semblait nécessaire de dresser un état des lieux des connaissances et des pratiques. Matériel et méthodes : Nous avons réalisé une étude descriptive monocentrique et transversale au CH de Cayenne par auto-questionnaires. Les professionels médicaux et paramédicaux salariés du CH de Cayenne acceptant de participer à l'enquête étaient inclus après tirage au sort. Résultats : 181 professionnels ont été interrogés. Des lacunes sur les connaissances générales en soins palliatifs ont été révélées : la définition de la phase initiale des soins palliatifs n'était clairement énoncée que par 45% des professionnels, la majorité savait que l'évaluation de la douleur devait être faite par tous, mais les moyens pour évaluer cette douleur n'étaient pas connus. Concernant la loi Leonetti, si 76% déclaraient la connaître, seulement 37% répondaient correctement au cas clinique, et la plupart des intervenants paramédicaux nécessaires pour les soins palliatifs n'était pas suffisant pour la plupart des professionnels. Enfin l'enquête a montré que l'EMSP était connue par la majorité mais pas ses actions. Les soignants ayant déja bénéficié d'une formation en soins palliatifs avaient plus de réponses correctes sur les connaissances et les pratiques. Conclusion : Suite à ce premier état des diffusion de la culture palliative et donc à une future amélioration de la prise en charge des patients en soins palliatifs au CH de Cayenne en fournissant des arguments pour l'amélioration des formations de l'information des soignants
