This book was released on 1994-10-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how resident, foreign managers interact with the Chinese in government and business and how this interaction affects implementation of joint venture laws and policies. In particular the author investigates local level bargaining between foreign joint venture managers and sub-national bureaucratic actors and focuses on the policy adjustments and legal innovations that evolve from this process, despite conflicting objectives. Most notably, he examines policy implementors who strive to maximize and speed transfer of capital, technology, and management know-how while maintaining control over joint venture operations, and joint venture managers who develop countermeasures to maximize profit, such as improving product quality and increasing autonomy from the state. The result of this research is to give a convincing picture of how business relations are successfully sustained in one of the world's most vigorous and dynamic economies.

Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A (95% of 100%), The American Central University, language: English, abstract: Since 1978, Deng Xiaoping succeeded to launch his economic reform program “Open Door” policy that encouraged foreign investments. It was the beginning of a new era for China. Deng’s idea was to open China to foreign investments in order to acquire resources, such as technology, expertise knowledge, etc... Deng promoted a socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics. It means that a market economy with decentralized public investment and a socialist framework of the society. However, he changed the political system as well, decentralized economic decision-making, and began legal and bureaucratic reforms. Chinese economy has experienced significant growth. There is no doubt that this economics expansion has been a direct result of Deng Xiaopeng’s “open door” policy. Foreign investments have rapidly increased and more factories were established by offering tax privileges, such as reduced import tariffs or tax exemptions for certain imports amongst others. In fact, among the developing countries, China is currently the one that attracts the most foreign investments. Joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, China pushed this development even further.

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Joint Ventures: Economic and Organizational Perspectives is the result of a symposium on International Joint Ventures and Strategic Alliances held by the Center for Research in Conflict and Negotiation at Pennsylvania State University. The book gives a cross-disciplinary treatment of the economic and managerial issues affecting joint venture formation, operation and performance, including subjects ranging from the impact of international trade policy to cross-cultural communication on joint venture operations. The volume enriches our understanding of each discipline from the vantage point of the other, building a more complete understanding of joint ventures as a mode of entry into domestic and international markets. Two categories of question are analyzed: issues of importance to the joint potential and actual participants in a joint venture, and issues related to the social effects of joint ventures from the point of view of society as a whole or its agent, the regulator. The questions are addressed using simple theoretical models and conceptual discussions as well as empirical analyses. Audience: Executives, policy makers and scholars of economics, decision analysis, political science and management.
Book Synopsis Cultural Hybridity by : Kwok-Bun Chan
Download or read book Cultural Hybridity written by Kwok-Bun Chan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a group of scholars from diverse disciplines to interrogate everyday life events in various interpersonal and organizational contexts so as to answer an age-old question: what happens when (carriers of) cultures meet, or, when East meets West? The contributors to this volume argue that, rather than assume clashes of civilizations, assimilation, conversion and essentialism to be the expected outcomes of cultural encounters, we should focus our analytical attention on processes rather than outcomes; on emergence, dialectics, contradictions, ironies and paradoxes, and complexity. We should focus on attempting to learn and grow, to synthesize and integrate, to create and innovate, to change and transform, at personal, micro, macro and global levels. Or, in one word: hybridity. Contexts of cultural encounters analyzed in this book range from business organizations, through individual travels, to personal philosophies, and from mechanical models to complex systems as social imaginaries. This book is based on a special issue of World Futures: The Journal of General Evolution.
