Book excerpt: Confessions Of A Half-Baked (But Highly Paid) Internet Marketer How would you like to: Embrace your laziness Build an automated business Change rules in your favor Smash your alarm clock Forget your fears and flaws Enjoy the chronic lifestyle Earn the envy of your peers Have fun every day I remember once speaking to a man who was frustrated with his status. He was upset and explained to me how he had worked hard in school, gone to college to get a degree and paid his dues in the corporate world, however, today he is working in a startup for a high school dropout CEO. Sympathizing with this man I told him my story. I too had worked hard, and paid my dues. After dropping out of high school I worked for various companies learning what I liked and didn't like about business. I then worked really hard to build my own business and now I have college graduates working for me. This is a book about building your own future. Whether you enjoy a little weed now and then or not, you will learn how I built my business online, giving me over 5000 mornings without an alarm clock, bosses, investors or crappy clients. My business makes me money regardless of my personal schedule. I can go to the spa, play Call Of Duty, read, or eat brownies and pass out. Every time I check my accounts there is more money. It wasn't easy for me to get here. Which is why I wrote this book, to hopefully make it easier for you. Order your copy of the Chronic Marketer now and start living the Chronic Marketer lifestyle as a HIGH functioning entrepreneur.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bold reconsideration of Hoodoo belief and practice Katrina Hazzard-Donald explores African Americans' experience and practice of the herbal, healing folk belief tradition known as Hoodoo. She examines Hoodoo culture and history by tracing its emergence from African traditions to religious practices in the Americas. Working against conventional scholarship, Hazzard-Donald argues that Hoodoo emerged first in three distinct regions she calls "regional Hoodoo clusters" and that after the turn of the nineteenth century, Hoodoo took on a national rather than regional profile. The spread came about through the mechanism of the "African Religion Complex," eight distinct cultural characteristics familiar to all the African ethnic groups in the United States. The first interdisciplinary examination to incorporate a full glossary of Hoodoo culture, Mojo Workin': The Old African American Hoodoo System lays out the movement of Hoodoo against a series of watershed changes in the American cultural landscape. Hazzard-Donald examines Hoodoo material culture, particularly the "High John the Conquer" root, which practitioners employ for a variety of spiritual uses. She also examines other facets of Hoodoo, including rituals of divination such as the "walking boy" and the "Ring Shout," a sacred dance of Hoodoo tradition that bears its corollaries today in the American Baptist churches. Throughout, Hazzard-Donald distinguishes between "Old tradition Black Belt Hoodoo" and commercially marketed forms that have been controlled, modified, and often fabricated by outsiders; this study focuses on the hidden system operating almost exclusively among African Americans in the Black spiritual underground.

Years would pass before the writer could reveal his true identity as Andrew Tobias, America's bestselling financial guru, author of The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need. Now, twenty-five years later, Tobias, proud to use his real name, brings his remarkable life story up to date. Writing with his customary charm and frank humor, Tobias tells of love affairs and heartbreak, hot New York parties and tough political battles, the excitement of genuine social change and the tragedy of seeing dear friends die young. Here too are the unforgettable scenes of Tobias revealing his sexual orientation not only to his parents but to the president of the United States. The author is an irresistible companion as he shares with us his proud stories, embarrassing confessions, and hilarious musings on "the homosexual lifestyle." Witty, heartfelt, and wonderfully affirming in every sense, this is Andrew Tobias's finest book to date.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find out why: - It’s wrong to blame Wall Street bankers for the global financial crisis. - The rhino-horn trade should be legalised. - Exempting anything from VAT is a bad idea, even for the poor. - Job creation is a fruitless exercise. - South Africa’s problem is not poverty. Tax, Lies and Red Tape is an insightful, easy-to-understand, very opinionated book about economics by one of South Africa’s most experienced and controversial economists. Dawie Roodt argues that economics is not about numbers, graphs and statistics; it is about people, and about how they react to incentives. Unfortunately, our politicians seem to have forgotten this. Using simple concepts and thought-provoking anecdotes, the book explains how ‘the market’ evolved with humanity, what was wrong with communism, what the global financial crisis is really about, the ways in which the state spends your money (and the ways in which it actually should), how tax is collected, how money and inflation really work, the ins and outs of trade, and the ups and downs of labour. In the process, Roodt debunks politically correct thinking and current government policy, and suggests alternatives for a more effective system. Whether you agree with him or not, Tax, Lies and Red Tape will get you thinking about economics in a completely new way.
