Book Synopsis Rod-cone Interaction in S-potentials from Cat Retina by : Roy Herbert Steinberg
Download or read book Rod-cone Interaction in S-potentials from Cat Retina written by Roy Herbert Steinberg and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rod-cone interaction in cat S-potentials was studied by analyzing the effect of wavelength and intensity upon the form of dark-adapted responses. Flashes of white light and relatively monochromatic flashes produced responses that seemed to originate from the excitation of both receptor types. The rod response changed as a function of intensity, peaking at approx. 2.5 log above threshold and increasing in duration at approx. 3.0 log above threshold. The cone response seemed in some way to add to the changing rod response. V-Log I curves showed that the rod responses reached a ceiling (initial peak voltage) at approx. 3.5 log above threshold while the maintained voltage leveled off at a lower intensity. Both ceilings were obscured by the apparent addition of the cone contribution. Cone and rod responses to brief orange and blue lights of moderate intensity, separated in time, added together across a complete range of intervals. (Author).
Download or read book To Catch a Cat written by Heather Green and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-07-05 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A heartfelt, funny memoir about how a kitten rescue project changed one cynic’s life… Journalist Heather Green was finally putting down roots: in shiny, buzzing Manhattan. She loved her work and threw herself into sixty-hour weeks—once walking into a subway pole, getting a concussion, and still going to the office. Her new boyfriend Matt lived across the river in a New Jersey town that had none of the glamour of New York. She liked Matt—a lot—yet she wasn’t sure what to make of weekends in gritty, dilapidated Union City. But things changed the summer morning Heather discovered a beautiful stray cat and her three black-and-white kittens in Matt’s neighbor’s backyard. When she made eye contact with one of the kittens, she felt something she’d never felt before. She and Matt had to save the little animals. Because if they didn’t, who would? The crazy world of cat rescue soon drew Heather in. As she and Matt worked together to figure out how to trap, tame, and find homes for their foundlings, she began to question the life she had back in Manhattan. This is the story of how three furry beings taught one woman about love, community, and what truly matters in life.

If you have a cat you know how independent they are. Book Synopsis The Other End of the Leash by : Patricia McConnell, Ph.D.
Download or read book The Other End of the Leash written by Patricia McConnell, Ph.D. and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2009-02-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

Book Synopsis A Variational Approach to Nonsmooth Dynamics by : Samir Adly
Download or read book A Variational Approach to Nonsmooth Dynamics written by Samir Adly and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief examines mathematical models in nonsmooth mechanics and nonregular electrical circuits, including evolution variational inequalities, complementarity systems, differential inclusions, second-order dynamics, Lur'e systems and Moreau's sweeping process. The field of nonsmooth dynamics is of great interest to mathematicians, mechanicians, automatic controllers and engineers. The present volume acknowledges this transversality and provides a multidisciplinary view as it outlines fundamental results in nonsmooth dynamics and explains how to use them to study various problems in engineering. In particular, the author explores the question of how to redefine the notion of dynamical systems in light of modern variational and nonsmooth analysis. With the aim of bridging between the communities of applied mathematicians, engineers and researchers in control theory and nonlinear systems, this brief outlines both relevant mathematical proofs and models in unilateral mechanics and electronics.
