Book excerpt: La théorie constructiviste postule que l’expérience est un élément essentiel de notre compréhension de l’environnement et de la construction des creusets cognitifs pré-linguistiques. C’est par l’action que l’enfant construit sa représentation du réel et témoigne, par son langage, de sa compréhension du monde. L’enfant sourd, du fait de nombreuses variables, a un développement cognitif particulier. Or, sa prise en charge orthophonique, souvent consacrée au développement linguistique, le place dans une dynamique de reproduction, et moins dans une construction autonome de sa pensée. L’objectif de cette étude est d'observer des enfants sourds en situation de jeu afin de décrire leur fonctionnement cognitif. Nous proposons un protocole de 4 ateliers ludiques à une population d’enfants sourds et d’enfants tout-venant entre 7 et 9 ans. Nous observons, relevons et analysons ensuite leurs conduites ludiques et langagières selon la théorie des Premiers Raisonnements et Emergence du Langage. Nous faisons l’hypothèse que les enfants sourds qui ont entre 7 et 9 ans et qui sont oralisants présentent un décalage dans les conduites avec les objets (symboliques ou non) et dans le langage associé à leurs conduites par rapport à des enfants tout-venant du même âge. Les résultats montrent que les conduites des enfants sourds sont différentes de celles des enfants tout-venant. Leurs actions sur les objets et leur utilisation du langage sont en décalage avec leur âge. S'intéresser ainsi au rapport au réel et au langage de l'enfant sourd est indispensable pour un ajustement clinique orthophonique centré sur les intérêts cognitifs des patients.

C'est dans ce contexte théorique qu'a émergé notre projet d'élaborer un matériel ludique de rééducation visant à améliorer l'emploi des connecteurs logiques. Nous avons donc créé un matériel qui se compose d'une phase d'imprégnation puis d'une phase de production, sous forme de jeu de plateau. Il aborde six liens logiques différents. Nous l'avons ensuite expérimenté auprès d'une population d'enfants sourds (moyens à profonds, oralisants) âgés de 8 à 14 ans afin d'en évaluer le caractère fonctionnel et de le réajuster si besoin.
