Howard. Longtemps considérée comme marginale en France, l'agriculture biologique est officiellement reconnue depuis 1980. L'agriculture biologique est un système global de production (animale et végétale) qui limite très fortement l'utilisation de produits chimiques de synthèse et préfère l'emploi de méthodes naturelles. L'agrobiologie a connu depuis le début des années 90 une très forte croissance dans toutes les productions, et notamment en élevage bovin laitier. L'agriculture biologique est réglementée par un cahier des charges européen (REPAB). En France les producteurs biologiques sont soumis à une réglementation plus stricte sur certains aspects. Une étude bibliographique sur les élevages bovins laitiers biologiques et une enquête menée dans 8 élevages en région Midi-Pyrénées et Aquitaine permettent de faire le point sur la gestion zootechnique et sanitaire de ces élevages. Les éleveurs gèrent leur troupeau de manière extensive, ils recherchent à auto-produire l'alimentation de leur troupeau, privilégiant les fourrages. La production laitière est inférieure à celle observée en élevages conventionnels. Les pathologies mammaires sont les problèmes sanitaires que les éleveurs ont le plus de difficultés à résoudre. La réglementation interdit les traitements allopathiques préventifs systématiques et limite à deux le nombre d'intervention allopathiques par vache et par an. Les éleveurs utilisent des traitements alternatifs en première intention, mais il ont recours à l'allopathie notamment pour les problèmes de mammites. Les éleveurs attendent de leurs vétérinaires des compétences en médecine alternatives et une plus grande ouverture d'esprit face à ce mode d'élevage.

L’élevage bovin allaitant biologique ne représente que 3,5 % du cheptel national fin 2015 ; mais il est important pour le vétérinaire intervenant dans les élevages biologiques de connaître ce mode de production et la réglementation européenne à laquelle sont soumis les éleveurs. Peu d’études ont porté sur l’élevage bovin allaitant et les pratiques des éleveurs biologiques sont encore peu connues. Ce constat a motivé la réalisation d’une enquête auprès d’éleveurs biologiques et conventionnels de la Creuse et de l’Indre. Le but de ce travail était de savoir si la conduite d’élevage, les dominantes pathologiques et les pratiques sanitaires différaient selon le mode de production et de connaître le ressenti des éleveurs sur les changements induits par la conversion vers l’agriculture biologique. Trente et un éleveurs biologiques (AB) et 20 éleveurs conventionnels (AC) ont répondu, lors d’un entretien, à notre questionnaire portant sur leurs conduites, leurs pratiques sanitaires, les maladies touchant l’élevage et les traitements vétérinaires. Les dominantes pathologiques et le niveau sanitaire ne varient pas selon le mode de production. Les principales différences concernent la conduite alimentaire avec une autonomie plus élevée chez les éleveurs biologiques (71 % des éleveurs AB versus 10 % des éleveurs AC), et les choix génétiques portés avant tout sur les critères fonctionnels en élevage biologique (75 % en AB versus 30 % en AC). Les éleveurs biologiques se distinguent des éleveurs conventionnels par leur moindre recours aux vaccins (29 % en AB versus 60 % en AC) et aux antiparasitaires allopathiques systématiques (21o% en AB versus 85 % en AC). La gestion du risque parasitaire repose sur une grande attention accordée au pâturage (71 % en AB versus 35 % en AC). Le recours aux médecines complémentaires est fréquent (79 % en AB versus 40 % en AC). 38% des éleveurs en AB plébiscitent la proposition de certaines solutions complémentaires par leur vétérinaire. La conversion ne présente pas de difficultés pour plus de la moitié des éleveurs (55 %) Les principaux changements observés concernent l’assolement (pour 68 % des éleveurs) avec la mise en place de cultures permettant d’atteindre l’autonomie alimentaire et l’adoption d’une vision globale de la santé du troupeau (pour 52 % des éleveurs) avec la mise en place de mesures préventives.

Pour cela, 95 indicateurs construits à partir des données de production, reproduction et de démographie des années 2006, 2007 et 2008 ont caractérisé 2000 élevages dont 153 biologiques. Les états d'équilibre et de déséquilibre sanitaire ont été définis par rapport à la variabilité des ces indicateurs au cours des 3 années d'étude. Ainsi, une analyse en composantes principales (ACP) a résumé l'information contenue dans ce jeu de données. Cela a permis de comparer plus simplement les élevages dont les indicateurs varient beaucoup au cours de ces 3 années de ceux dont les indicateurs sont stables. Pour cela, à l'aide des coordonnées annuelles de chaque élevage issues de l'ACP, chaque élevage a pu être placé dans un espace à 30 dimensions, et son barycentre a pu être calculé. L'analyse du positionnement de chaque élevage par rapport à son barycentre a permis d'évaluer l'évolution des indicateurs de chaque élevage au cours des 3 années d'étude. Ainsi, les 25%premiers élevages présentant les indicateurs les plus stables ont été considérés en équilibre sanitaire et les 10 % premiers élevages présentant les indicateurs les moins stables ont été considérés en déséquilibre sanitaire. Il n'a pas été possible de caractériser plus précisément les élevages en état d'équilibre ou de déséquilibre sanitaire par leurs indicateurs autrement que par l'évolution de ces derniers.

The dietary supply model accounts for digestive interactions and flows of individual nutrients, so that feed values depend on the final ration. Animal requirements account for variability in metabolic efficiency. Various productive and non-productive animal responses to diets are quantified. This book presents the whole system for dairy and meat, large and small ruminant production, including specificities for tropical and Mediterranean areas. The first two sections present biological concepts and equations (with their field of application and statistical accuracy) used to predict intake (including at grazing) and nutrient supply (Section 1), animal’s requirements and multiple responses to diets (Section 2). They apply to net energy, metabolisable protein and amino acids, water, minerals and vitamins. Section 3 presents the use of concepts and equations in rationing with two purposes: (1) diet calculation for a given performance objective; and (2) prediction of the multiple responses of animal to diet changes. Section 4 displays the tables of feed values, and their prevision. All the equations and concepts are embedded in the fifth version of INRAtion® software for practical use.
