Book Synopsis Work-Life Balance and the Economic Crisis by : Anthony Forsyth
Download or read book Work-Life Balance and the Economic Crisis written by Anthony Forsyth and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-14 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one can deny the significance attributed to the issue of reconciling work and private life by contemporary society, the EU and other international organisations. Its relevance is evident in the multifaceted nature of this topic and the need for each party to the employment contract to strike a proper balance between professional and personal responsibilities, based on the assumption that people can successfully harmonise their work with life. Following on from these considerations, this volume provides a detailed analysis of work-life balance and its regulation in a number of EU countries, emphasizing the consequences that the current economic crisis has brought about in this field.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge Handbook of the Global Work–Family Interface by : Kristen M. Shockley
Download or read book The Cambridge Handbook of the Global Work–Family Interface written by Kristen M. Shockley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-26 with total page 1081 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cambridge Handbook of the Global Work-Family Interface is a response to growing interest in understanding how people manage their work and family lives across the globe. Given global and regional differences in cultural values, economies, and policies and practices, research on work-family management is not always easily transportable to different contexts. Researchers have begun to acknowledge this, conducting research in various national settings, but the literature lacks a comprehensive source that aims to synthesize the state of knowledge, theoretical progression, and identification of the most compelling future research ideas within field. The Cambridge Handbook of the Global Work-Family Interface aims to fill this gap by providing a single source where readers can find not only information about the general state of global work-family research, but also comprehensive reviews of region-specific research. It will be of value to researchers, graduate students, and practitioners of applied and organizational psychology, management, and family studies.

Book Synopsis Women in Management Worldwide by : Ronald J. Burke
Download or read book Women in Management Worldwide written by Ronald J. Burke and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-08-12 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations today are facing unprecedented challenges, including an ageing workforce, potential talent shortages, an increasingly competitive international environment and the need to utilize the talents of the best qualified people, regardless of gender. More women than men, in many cases, are graduating from universities and gaining the requisite experience to qualify for advancement to higher levels of management. In this expanded and revised third edition, Professors Burke and Richardsen, together with a list of international contributors, address women’s progression in the workforce and into the upper echelons of management. They cover a range of professions and a geographically dispersed territory, thereby advancing the understanding of women in management within a traditional context, and making a substantial contribution to the literature for both an academic and practitioner audience. The broader regional perspective offers a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities facing women in the workplace, and promotes the ongoing analysis of the interface between women's career aspirations and societal and organizational norms, assumptions and values. Following the same format as the previous edition, the country by country analysis allows for the data between countries and regions to be compared, for the differences to be addressed and a more holistic picture of the situation in a given country to be assessed. Women in Management Worldwide will appeal to researchers, policy-makers in a range of countries interested in workforce issues, talent management and gender equality, as well as consultants working with international organizations on HRM and organizational effectiveness challenges.
Book Synopsis Gender-Competent Legal Education by : Dragica Vujadinović
Download or read book Gender-Competent Legal Education written by Dragica Vujadinović and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-03 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Male-dominated law and legal knowledge essentially characterized the whole of pre-modern history in that the patriarchy represented the axis of social relations in both the private and public spheres. Indeed, modern and even contemporary law still have embedded elements of patriarchal heritage, even in the secular modern legal systems of Western developed countries, either within the content of legislation or in terms of its implementation and interpretation. This is true to a greater or lesser extent across legal systems, although the secular modern legal systems of the Western developed countries have made great advances in terms of gender equality. The traditional understanding of law has always been self-evidently dominated by men, but modern law and its understanding have also been more or less “malestreamed.” Therefore, it has become necessary to overcome the given “maskulinity” of legal thought. In contemporary legal and political orders, gender mainstreaming of law has been of the utmost importance for overcoming deeply and persistently embedded power relations and gender-based, unequal social relations. At the same time and equally importantly, the gender mainstreaming of legal education – to which this book aims to contribute – can help to gradually eliminate this male dominance and accompanying power relations from legal education and higher education as a whole. This open access textbook provides an overview of gender issues in all areas of law, including sociological, historical and methodological issues. Written for students and teachers around the globe, it is intended to provide both a general overview and in-depth knowledge in the individual areas of law. Relevant court decisions and case studies are supplied throughout the book.
Book Synopsis Social Partners and Gender Equality by : Anna Elomäki
Download or read book Social Partners and Gender Equality written by Anna Elomäki and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book breaks new ground in gender and politics research by studying the multiple ways in which gender and intersectional equalities shape and are shaped by social partners representing employers and employees in Europe, as well as the relationships between those social partners. Little critical attention has been paid to these organizations, yet, as this volume illustrates, social partners are important actors in relation to gender and other inequalities at the level of both individual European countries and the European Union. The chapters in this volume explore the impact of social partners on (in)equalities in a variety of 21st-century political contexts, taking into account phenomena such as neoliberalisation, austerity, and the COVID-19 crisis. This volume adds a crucial dimension to studies on gender inequalities in the labour market, contributing to research on issues such as domestic work, the gender pay gap, and the persistent undervaluation of women’s labour and feminized reproductive labour, in particular care work. It also represents a significant contribution to the literature on gender equality policy. The book’s focus on social partners provides important insights that help to explain the persistence of gender inequalities and the difficulties of adopting and implementing policies to combat them. This volume should appeal to students and researchers of gender studies, politics, European politics, employment relations, and international relations, as well as to policymakers engaged in addressing gender inequalities in the labour market.
Book Synopsis Conciliación y Corresponsabilidad de las personas trabajadoras by : Emma Rodríguez Rodríguez
Download or read book Conciliación y Corresponsabilidad de las personas trabajadoras written by Emma Rodríguez Rodríguez and published by Siglo del Hombre Editores. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This book provides a model for the creation of sustainable and healthy cities in the Mediterranean region. This book was released on 2010-10-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divorce has long been viewed as a single phenomenon affecting two individuals without considering the framework conditions in which it occurs. Due to the increase of divorce rates in the past decades researchers have changed their perspective and have concentrated on the view of divorce as a personal experience that is greatly affected by the socials and economic environment. The aim of this thesis is to investigate divorce that has become a mass phenomenon in our present society. The assumption is that in order to understand the grounds for divorce and its consequences, we have to view divorce as a phenomenon that occurs at the intersection of personal, socio-economic and legal factors. Family disputes involve persons who have interdependent and continued relati- ships and arise in a context of distressing emotions. Separation and divorce affect all the members of the family, especially children. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of divorce as a psychological process that is situated within a social and a legal context. It presents a comprehensive view of divorce as a psychosocial, economic and legal phenomenon and contains a review of the research literature about divorce and its consequences for parents and children. Moreover, it describes divorce by proposing conceptual frames and explanatory models.

Book Synopsis Male Bias in the Development Process by : Diane Elson
Download or read book Male Bias in the Development Process written by Diane Elson and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that the development process is marked by male bias - ill-founded and unjustified asymmetries that operate in favour of men and against women. The contributors include some of the leading writers in the gender and development field - Diane Elson, Delia Davin, Susie Jacobs, Carolyne Dennis, Alison MacEwan Scott and Ruth Pearson. Together they analyze the variety of forms taken by male bias: its foundations and the way it changes over time; and the possibilities of overcoming it. The cases considered cover both urban and rural settings; agriculture, industry and services; self-employment and wage-employment; and Africa, Asia and Latin America.
