Book Synopsis Clarinet Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 in Full Score by : Carl Maria von Weber
Download or read book Clarinet Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 in Full Score written by Carl Maria von Weber and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These popular clarinet concertos, both written in 1811, follow in the classical tradition of Mozart while showcasing the instrument's new technical possibilities. They arose from the fortunate introduction of composer Carl Maria von Weber to one of the era's greatest clarinetists, Heinrich Joseph Baermann. Excited by the performer's virtuosity, von Weber created these two works, which have since become cornerstones of the clarinet repertoire. In the Concerto No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 73, the solo clarinetist has the opportunity to range over the instrument's entire compass, with brilliant runs, leaps, and passagework. The Concerto No. 2 in E-flat Major, Op. 74, features a long first movement with considerable development, a spellbinding "Barcarolle" second movement, and a sparkling final "Polacca". These two works appear here in full score and for the first time in a single volume, offering insightful delights for performers and listeners alike.

Download or read book The Clarinet written by Eric Hoeprich and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The clarinet has a long and rich history as a solo, orchestral, and chamber musical instrument. In this broad-ranging account Eric Hoeprich, a performer, teacher, and expert on historical clarinets, explores its development, repertoire, and performance history. Looking at the antecedents of the clarinet, as well as such related instruments as the chalumeau, basset horn, alto clarinet, and bass clarinet, Hoeprich explains the use and development of the instrument in the Baroque age. The period from the late 1700s to Beethoven's early years is shown to have fostered ever wider distribution and use of the instrument, and a repertoire of increasing richness. The first half of the nineteenth century, a golden age for the clarinet, brought innovation in construction and great virtuosity in performance, while the following century and a half produced a surge in new works from many composers. The author also devotes a chapter to the role of the clarinet in bands, folk music, and jazz.
Book Synopsis Clarinet Concerto in C Minor, Op. 36 by : Philipp Jakob Riotte
Download or read book Clarinet Concerto in C Minor, Op. 36 written by Philipp Jakob Riotte and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-01-01 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early years of the nineteenth century saw wide-ranging developments to the mechanics and acoustics of the Classical clarinet. The Russian virtuoso clarinetist, composer, and instrument designer Iwan Müller brought about some of the most important innovations in clarinet design. His clarinet omnitonique, a thirteen-keyed instrument, was radical in that it would be able to play comfortably in all tonalities, dispensing with the need for the family of clarinets pitched in different keys. For a prototype of this nouvelle clarineta collaboration between Müller and the noted Viennese maker, Johann Merkleinthe German composer Philipp Jakob Riotte (17761856) wrote a virtuosic concerto. This premiered in Vienna in the autumn of 1809. Published in 1818, and previously thought to be lost, Riottes op. 36 for the prototype clarinet omnitonique displays a diverse palette of keys, extreme registral contrasts, and chromatic writing for clarinet, which were clearly facets of Müllers playing enabled by his new instrument. The work enhances our understanding of the development and deployment of the clarinet omnitonique within the concerto genre in the early nineteenth century. It serves also to reinstate the important relationship between Müller, Riotte, and Merklein.
