Book excerpt: Exclusive B decays can be factorized as convolutions of hard scattering amplitudes involving the weak interaction with universal hadron distribution amplitudes, thus providing a new QCD-based phenomenology. In addition, semi-leptonic decay amplitudes can be computed exactly in terms of the diagonal and off-diagonal[Delta]= 2 overlap of hadronic light-cone wavefunctions. I review these formalisms and the essential QCD ingredients. A canonical form of the light-cone wavefunctions, valid at low values of the transverse momenta, is presented. The existence of intrinsic charm Fock states in the B meson wavefunction can enhance the production of final states of B-decay with three charmed quarks, such as B[yields] J/[psi]D, as well as lead to the breakdown of the CKM hierarchy.

This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We show that, in the heavy quark limit, the hadronic matrix elements that enter B meson decays into two light mesons can be computed from first principles, including ''non-factorizable'' strong interaction corrections, and expressed in terms of form factors and meson light-cone distribution amplitudes. The conventional factorization result follows in the limit when both power corrections in 1/m[sub b] and radiative corrections in[alpha][sub s] are neglected. We compute the order-[alpha][sub s] corrections to the decays B[sub d][r-arrow][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]], B[sub d][r-arrow][pi][sup 0][pi][sup 0] and B[sup+][r-arrow][pi][sup+][pi][sup 0] in the heavy quark limit and briefly discuss the phenomenological implications for the branching ratios, strong phases and CP violation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss within the context of heavy-quark symmetry a program for performing model 226 independent tests of the factorization scenario proposed by Dugan and Grinstein for hadronic B-meson decays. Preliminary, model 226 dependent results for decays to a D or D* and one, two, or three pions are presented which indicate that the predictions of factorization are consistent with the present experimental situation. Our results suggest that such decays may not only provide a precision testing ground for factorization, but also an opportunity to study the properties of excited D mesons and to measure many of the universal form factors of heavy-quark symmetry (including ones not otherwise readily accessible).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate theoretical expectations for B-meson decay rates in the Standard Model. Strong-interaction effects described by quantum chromodynamics (QCD) make this a challenging endeavor. Exact solutions to QCD are not known, but an arsenal of approximation techniques have been developed. We apply effective field theory methods, in particular the sophisticated machinery of the soft-collinear effective theory (SCET), to B decays with energetic hadrons in the final state. SCET separates perturbative interactions at the scales mb and ... from hadronic physics at AQCD by expanding in ratios of these scales. After a review of SCET, we construct a complete reparametrization-invariant basis for heavy-to-light currents in SCET at next-to-next-to-leading order in the power-counting expansion. Next we classify AQCD/mb corrections to non-leptonic B - M1 M2 decays, where M1,2 are charmless mesons (flavor singlets excluded). The leading contributions to annihilation amplitudes as well as the leading "chirally enhanced" contributions are calculated and depend on twist-2 two-parton and twist-3 three-parton distributions. We demonstrate that non-perturbative strong phases in annihilation are suppressed. Using simple models, we find that the three-parton and two-parton terms have comparable magnitude, both consistent with the expected size of power corrections. Finally, we present a method for determining Vub from B --> [pi] data that is competitive with inclusive methods. At large q2, the form factor is taken from unquenched lattice QCD. At q2 = 0, we impose a model-independent constraint obtained from B --> [pi][pi] using SCET, and the form factor shape is constrained using QCD dispersion relations. Theory error is dominated by the input points, with negligible uncertainty from the dispersion relations.

Book Synopsis Hadron Form Factors by : Alexander Khodjamirian
Download or read book Hadron Form Factors written by Alexander Khodjamirian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the phenomenology and theory of hadron form factors in a consistent manner, deriving step-by-step the key equations, defining the form factors from the matrix elements of hadronic transitions and deriving their symmetry relations. Explained are several general concepts of particle theory and phenomenology exemplified by hadron form factors. The main emphasis here is on learning the analytical methods in particle phenomenology. Many examples of hadronic processes involving form factors are considered, from the pion electromagnetic scattering to heavy B-meson decays. In the second part of the book, modern techniques of the form factor calculation, based on the method of sum rules in the theory of strong interactions, quantum chromodynamics, are introduced in an accessible manner. This book will be a useful guide for graduate students and early-career researchers working in the field of particle phenomenology and experiments. Features: • The first book to address the phenomenology of hadron form factors at a pedagogical level in one coherent volume • Contains up-to-date descriptions of the most important form factors of the electroweak transitions investigated in particle physics experiments
