En los dos primeros capítulos se hace un resumen del manejo dimensional de las magnitudes físicas, y se le da un énfasis especial a la utilización del sistema internacional de unidades (SI); igualmente, se sintetiza el álgebra vectorial requerida para el manejo de las operaciones de las magnitudes vectoriales que se involucran en el estudio de la física mecánica. Al finalizar cada tema se presentan ejemplos completamente desarrollados, los cuales le permiten al estudiante analizar y aplicar en forma correcta los conceptos involucrados. En cada capítulo se presentan problemas que se han tomado o adaptado de eventos reales, de tal manera que el estudiante puede observar la aplicación evidente de la física. Como característica metodológica, cabe resaltar el hecho de que las leyes y conceptos físicos se presentan integrados como parte de una ciencia y no como temas aislados. Uno de los propósitos de los autores es que los alumnos cambien el concepto del estudio de la física, que para la mayoría de ellos consiste en un conjunto de “fórmulas”.
