Book Synopsis Field Programmable Logic and Applications by : Patrick Lysaght
Download or read book Field Programmable Logic and Applications written by Patrick Lysaght and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-06-22 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the papers presented at the 9th International Workshop on Field ProgrammableLogic and Applications (FPL’99), hosted by the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, August 30 – September 1, 1999. FPL’99 is the ninth in the series of annual FPL workshops. The FPL’99 programme committee has been fortunate to have received a large number of high-quality papers addressing a wide range of topics. From these, 33 papers have been selected for presentation at the workshop and a further 32 papers have been accepted for the poster sessions. A total of 65 papers from 20 countries are included in this volume. FPL is a subject area that attracts researchers from both electronic engine- ing and computer science. Whether we are engaged in research into soft ha- ware or hard software seems to be primarily a question of perspective. What is unquestionable is that the interaction of groups of researchers from di?erent backgrounds results in stimulating and productive research. As we prepare for the new millennium, the premier European forum for - searchers in ?eld programmable logic remains the FPL workshop. Next year the FPL series of workshopswill celebrate its tenth anniversary. The contribution of so many overseas researchers has been a particularly attractive feature of these events, giving them a truly international perspective, while the informal and convivial atmosphere that pervades the workshops have been their hallmark. We look forward to preserving these features in the future while continuing to expand the size and quality of the events.

Book Synopsis IEEE Computer Society Workshop on VLSI 2000 by : Asim Smailagic
Download or read book IEEE Computer Society Workshop on VLSI 2000 written by Asim Smailagic and published by Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers(IEEE). This book was released on 2000 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains 23 papers from the April 2000 workshop which identified system level design as a dominant VLSI research theme for the next decade. System design is converging on a model which combines general purpose commodity chips and full custom mixed analogy with digital application specific integrated circuits integrated via programmable gate arrays on custom printed circuit boards or complete silicon boards, creating a system-on-a-chip. Some of the papers discuss the constraints of complexity, power consumption, heat dissipation, mechanical packaging, ergonomics, and design effort. Other major topics are timing issues, analysis and synthesis of asynchronous circuits, and advances in multiplier design. No subject index. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.

Download or read book Bolometers written by Torrence M. Walcott and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bolometer is a device for measuring the energy of incident electromagnetic radiation. It consists of an "absorber" connected to a heat sink through an insulating link. The result is that any radiation absorbed by the absorber raises its temperature above that of the heat sink; then the higher the energy absorbed, the higher the temperature will be. This book gathers and presents current research in the study of bolometers including investigations of properties of high temperature superconducting bolometers, operating uncooled resistive bolometers in a closed-loop mode, as well as a review on thin-film micro-bolometers with Si-Ge thermo-sensing films deposited from plasma discharge.
Download or read book Corpus written by Jean-Luc Nancy and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How have we thought “the body”? How can we think it anew? The body of mortal creatures, the body politic, the body of letters and of laws, the “mystical body of Christ”—all these (and others) are incorporated in the word Corpus, the title and topic of Jean-Luc Nancy’s masterwork. Corpus is a work of literary force at once phenomenological, sociological, theological, and philosophical in its multiple orientations and approaches. In thirty-six brief sections, Nancy offers us at once an encyclopedia and a polemical program—reviewing classical takes on the “corpus” from Plato, Aristotle, and Saint Paul to Descartes, Hegel, Husserl, and Freud, while demonstrating that the mutations (technological, biological, and political) of our own culture have given rise to the need for a new understanding of the body. He not only tells the story of this cultural change but also explores the promise and responsibilities that such a new understanding entails. The long-awaited English translation is a bold, bravura rendering. To the title essay are added five closely related recent pieces—including a commentary by Antonia Birnbaum—dedicated in large part to the legacy of the “mind-body problem” formulated by Descartes and the challenge it poses to rethinking the ancient problems of the corpus. The last and most poignant of these essays is “The Intruder,” Nancy’s philosophical meditation on his heart transplant. The book also serves as the opening move in Nancy’s larger project called “The deconstruction of Christianity.”
Book Synopsis Faecal Sludge Management by : Linda Strande
Download or read book Faecal Sludge Management written by Linda Strande and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that literally billions of residents in urban and peri-urban areas of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are served by onsite sanitation systems (e.g. various types of latrines and septic tanks). Until recently, the management of faecal sludge from these onsite systems has been grossly neglected, partially as a result of them being considered temporary solutions until sewer-based systems could be implemented. However, the perception of onsite or decentralized sanitation technologies for urban areas is gradually changing, and is increasingly being considered as long-term, sustainable options in urban areas, especially in low- and middle-income countries that lack sewer infrastructures. This is the first book dedicated to faecal sludge management. It compiles the current state of knowledge of the rapidly evolving field of faecal sludge management, and presents an integrated approach that includes technology, management, and planning based on Sandecs 20 years of experience in the field. Faecal Sludge Management: Systems Approach for Implementation and Operation addresses the organization of the entire faecal sludge management service chain, from the collection and transport of sludge, and the current state of knowledge of treatment options, to the final end use or disposal of treated sludge. The book also presents important factors to consider when evaluating and upscaling new treatment technology options. The book is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, and engineers and practitioners in the field who have some basic knowledge of environmental and/or wastewater engineering.
