Book Synopsis Stochastic Processes for Spatial Econometrics by : Jorge Mateu Mahiques
Download or read book Stochastic Processes for Spatial Econometrics written by Jorge Mateu Mahiques and published by Netbiblo. This book was released on 2010 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a general methodology which is shown to be valid in the analysis of spatial point structures and that is certainly easier to use by non-expert researchers coming from other applied sciences than other much modern techniques. We suggest that the local conditioning approach has the advantage that it is statistically efficient, easy to correct for edge-effects and provides similar results than other (more complicated) likelihood-based methods. We show a mathematical justification to prove that any purely inhibitory pairwise interaction point process (pipp) can be obtained as the limit of a sequence of auto-Poisson lattice schemes and within this context we develop the pseudolikelihood estimating equations. We particularly focus on developing a Monte Carlo simulation study to analyze the behaviour of the parameter s of a particular pipp model derived using this technique. We also stress that this methodology has a wide range of applications in many fields, particularly in economy and demography.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Stack Gas Dispersion by : Milton R. Beychok
Download or read book Fundamentals of Stack Gas Dispersion written by Milton R. Beychok and published by Milton R Beychok. This book was released on 1994 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the new, fourth edition of the book on dispersion modeling of continuous, buoyant air pollution plumes which takes nothing for granted. Every equation is completely derived step-by-step without any complicated or advanced mathematics. Every constraint and assumption is fully explained. A set of self-study exercises is also included with the book. The subjects covered in the book include atmospheric turbulence and stability classes, buoyant plume rise, Gaussian dispersion calculations and modeling, time-averaged concentrations, wind velocity profiles, fumigations, trapped plumes, flare stack plumes and much more ... with a great many example calculations. Copies of the book have been purchased in the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia (in a total of 57 countries), and are available in over 130 libraries worldwide. The book has been very widely referenced and cited in the technical literature and on the Internet.

Book Synopsis Architecture and Urbanization in Colonial Chiapas, Mexico by : Sidney David Markman
Download or read book Architecture and Urbanization in Colonial Chiapas, Mexico written by Sidney David Markman and published by American Philosophical Society. This book was released on 1984 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covers colonial architecture in the two westernmost provinces of the Reino de Guatemala: Audiencia & Capitania General -- a region largely isolated from the rest of Central America & Mexico until recent times. The buildings of this region (known as Chiapas) reflect the soc. that produced them: the geographical setting, the conquest & Christianization of the natives, & the ethnic composition of the population. 47 buildings are discussed supported by material from contemporary sources as well as by photos & measurements gathered on the sites. This catalog of archival texts will be useful not only to historians of art & architecture, but also to archaeologists, anthropologists, & ethnohistorians working in Chiapas. Photos & drawings.
Book Synopsis The Dignity of Nations by : John Fitzgerald
Download or read book The Dignity of Nations written by John Fitzgerald and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributors to this book argue that everyday struggles for dignity and equality in the states of East Asia provide much of the impetus driving East Asian nationalism. They examine China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, which occupy one of the most volatile regions in the world today. Each of them harbors an historical grievance dating back half a century or more which limits its full or effective sovereignty. China seeks to recover Taiwan; Taiwan presses for de jure recognition of its de facto autonomy. Neither of the two Koreas is satisfied to remain separated from the other indefinitely, and Japan is divided over constitutional limits on the sovereign right to wage war. Each of these historical grievances is structured into the politics of the region and into its international relations. They are also embedded in popular memories that periodically spark pride, shame, and resentment – whether over a rocky outcrop, a history textbook, or an alleged US intervention on a sensitive issue of national sovereignty. Everyday struggles for dignity and equality, the contributors argue, should not be overlooked in any search for explanations of nationalist pride and resentment.

Book Synopsis The Economic Geography of Innovation by : Karen R. Polenske
Download or read book The Economic Geography of Innovation written by Karen R. Polenske and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-04-12 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This critical addition to the growing literature on innovation contains extensive analyses of the institutional and spatial aspects of innovation. Written by leading scholars in the fields of economic geography, innovation studies, planning, and technology policy, the fourteen chapters cover conceptual and measurement issues in innovation and relevant technology policies. The contributors examine how different institutional factors facilitate or hamper the flows of information and knowledge within and across firms, regions, and nations. In particular, they provide insights into the roles of important institutions such as gender and culture which are often neglected in the innovation literature, and demonstrate the key role which geography plays in the innovation process. Institutions and policy measures which support entrepreneurship and cluster development are also discussed. The result is a comparative picture of the institutional factors underlying innovation systems across the globe.
Book Synopsis Australian Sodic Soils by : R. Naidu
Download or read book Australian Sodic Soils written by R. Naidu and published by CSIRO Publishing. This book was released on 1995 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Sodic soils cover almost a third of the total land in Australia and are represented to some extent on all continents except Antarctica. They can occur naturally, as in Australia, or may develop as a result of the removal of salts from saline soils." "Sodicity impacts adversely on many soil properties and interferes with the proper functioning of the soil and of the plants grown in it. Problems arise as a result of the deterioration in soil structure, decreased retention and availability of water, decreased nutrient availability and impaired biological activity. Sodic soils are easily eroded and this causes severe land degradation and pollution of water resources." "The management of sodic soils is often difficult and challenging. Because they are so widespread in Australia, their impact on productivity is immense." "Australian Sodic Soils: Distribution, Properties and Management brings together for the first time the results of scientific studies carried out in Australia and presented at the first national conference on Australian sodic soils."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
