Download or read book Lavi written by John W. Golan and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The largest weapons development effort ever undertaken by the State of Israel, the Lavi fighter program envisioned a new generation of high-performance aircraft. Controversially, Israel Aircraft Industries intended to develop and manufacture the fighters in Israel with U.S. financial support. The sophisticated planes, developed in the mid-1980s, were unique in design and intended to make up the majority of the Israeli Air Force. Though a great deal of prestige and money was staked, developmental costs increased and doubts arose as to whether the Lavi could be the warplane it was meant to be. Eventually, the program became a microcosm for the US-Israel relationship and of Israeli society itself--a study in the ambitions, fears, and internal divisions that shaped them. The fighter never made it to operational service. Despite the passage of time since its cancelation, the Lavi remains a controversial subject within Israeli society to this day. Until now, the full breadth and significance of the Lavi story has never been told. "Lavi: Israel's Lost Winged Lion" traces the evolution of the Lavi fighter from its genesis in the 1970s to its demise in August of 1987. Painting the era's political landscape on both sides of the ocean, author John Golan examines the roles of such Israeli military icons and political leaders as Ezer Weizman, Ariel Sharon, Menachem Begin, and Yitzhak Rabin. On the American side, Golan traces the evolution of U.S. government policy towards the program, detailing a complex, nuanced picture of the U.S. foreign policy apparatus and of U.S.-Israel relations in general--from President Reagan's public endorsement of the program on the White House lawn to Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger's unremitting attempts to cancel the program in succeeding years.
Book Synopsis Multimedia Computing by : Sorel Reisman
Download or read book Multimedia Computing written by Sorel Reisman and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 1993-12-31 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multimedia computing (MMC) is becoming an increasingly popular technology. The widespread use of personal computers, together with significant scientific and economic breakthroughs in multimedia technology have begun to make multimedia a practical paradigm of end user computing, from the interactive text and graphics model that has developed since the 1950s into one that is more compatible with the digital electronic world of the next century. Although the field of multimedia computing is more than 30 years old, the rapidly changing personal computing industry has become obsessed with a set of technologies, products and practices that falls under the rubric of multimedia computing. As the industry continues to race toward the 21st century, it is becoming more and more difficult for people who are interested, but not directly involved in the development of MMC to identify and understand the important and key issues that underlie this topic. Multimedia Computing: Preparing for the 21st Century addresses the modern environment of MMC by providing you with a contemporary and extensive source book for issues surrounding MMC today and trends and issues related to the next generation of end user computing utilizing the technologies of multimedia.

Book Synopsis Software Development Environments and Case Technology by : Albert Endres
Download or read book Software Development Environments and Case Technology written by Albert Endres and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-06-10 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software development environments are integrated sets of tools, techniques and processes that assist in the sys- tematic development of software products. They are intended to support all phases of the software development cycle: requirements definition, design, implementation, test, and maintenance. These Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools typically make use of graphic manipulation facilities and rely on some form of development database to exchange various types of design objects between tools. Facilitated by the availability of powerful workstations, implementations of these technologies are now within reach of every software developer. This volume presents the proceedings of a symposium organized by the GI (Gesellschaft für Informatik), the GMD (Gesellschaft für Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung) and ESEC (European Software Engineering Conferences). The symposium brought together application development managers and top specialists involved in the selection and introduction of software development tools, leading developers of such tools and well known authorities from the research community. The proceedings contain first-hand information on practical experiences and requirements, development directions and strategies, and key research issues and results.
