Book Synopsis Marshall’s Physiology of Reproduction by : G.E. Lamming
Download or read book Marshall’s Physiology of Reproduction written by G.E. Lamming and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 1288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most comprehensive review available today, Marshall's Physiology of Reproduction is the classic reference source for teachers and researchers of animal reproduction. Internationally recognised leaders in their respective fields provide an analytical synopsis of the area, review current research and outline their philosophical approach to the subject. Volume 3 of the fourth edition reviews the processes of pregnancy and lactation in mammals, incorporating marsupials, non-primate eutherians and primates including man. Book one covers pregnancy from ovulation to pre-parturition, book two reviews fetal physiology, parturition and lactation. The extensive coverage of the physiology of human reproduction and lactation makes this volume a particularly important reference source for researchers in human fertility control, while the review of large animal reproduction is relevant to veterinary and para-veterinary workers.

Book Synopsis Sex and Character by : Otto Weininger
Download or read book Sex and Character written by Otto Weininger and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2005-04-14 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Otto Weininger's controversial book Sex and Character, first published in Vienna in 1903, is a prime example of the conflicting discourses central to its time: antisemitism, scientific racism and biologism, misogyny, the cult and crisis of masculinity, psychological introspection versus empiricism, German idealism, the women's movement and the idea of human emancipation, the quest for sexual liberation, and the debates about homosexuality. Combining rational reasoning with irrational outbursts, in the context of today's scholarship, Sex and Character speaks to issues of gender, race, cultural identity, the roots of Nazism, and the intellectual history of modernism and modern European culture. This new translation presents, for the first time, the entire text, including Weininger's extensive appendix with amplifications of the text and bibliographical references, in a reliable English translation, together with a substantial introduction that places the book in its cultural and historical context.
Book Synopsis State-of-the-art Imaging in Stroke by : Bernhard Schaller
Download or read book State-of-the-art Imaging in Stroke written by Bernhard Schaller and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a substantial number of imaging studies have addressed the neuronal processes underlying recovery after stroke. Although difficult to achieve, several longitudinal studies assessed both clinical recovery and imaging patterns over time and give important inside into the plasticity of the stroked brain. This tendency is supported by the fact that it has become possible to depict biological processes at the cellular and molecular level. Of primary interest is the development of methods using MRI and PET with which the different kinds of progress of therapy in acute ischemic stroke can be monitored and graphically displayed. The emerging studies of brain plasticity and its modulation by drugs and other therapies indicate potentially useful approaches to the rehabilitation of adults with brain damage, including damage resulting from cerebral ischaemia. State-of-the-art imaging technology is already being developed to image genes and their impact on cellular function in laboratory animals. Eventually, this may also be possible in humans. Main attention is given to imaging the post-stroke phase and its implication on treatment. This book gives important insight in the future of imaging in stroke and their interaction with clinical aspects. Stroke care has become a specialised field, requiring input from different sub-specialists forming a multidisciplinary team.
Book Synopsis The Principles of Psychology by : William James
Download or read book The Principles of Psychology written by William James and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principles of Psychology is a monumental text in the history of psychology, written by William James and published in 1890. There were four methods in James' psychology: analysis (i.e. the logical criticism of precursor and contemporary views of the mind), introspection (i.e. the psychologist's study of his own states of mind), experiment (e.g. in hypnosis or neurology), and comparison (the use of statistical means to distinguish norms from anomalies).
