Book Synopsis Compounding and Discounting Tables for Project Analysis by : James Price Gittinger
Download or read book Compounding and Discounting Tables for Project Analysis written by James Price Gittinger and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1984 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preparation and analysis of development projects require much computation - of internal rates of return, benefit-cost ratios, net present worth, and rates of growth. For these and many other calculations, project planners and analysts will find this book a convenient and time-saving reference. Six-decimal tables for 1 percent through 50 percent show the compounding factor for 1 and for 1 per annum, the sinking fund factor, the discount factor, the present worth of an annuity factor, and the capital recovery factor. Summary present worth tables give project analysts at a glance the discount factors most used to calculate measures of project worth. Narrow-interval compounding tables give the compounding factor for 1 at fractional interest rates from 0.0 through 20.9 percent. All tables give values for project years 1 through 50. This new edition sets out the same careful and practical methodology for analyzing agricultural investments but adds a wealth of recent project data, expanded treatment of farm budgets and efficiency prices, appendixes on presenting project preparation reports and on using discounting tables, an expanded and completely annotated bibliography, and a detailed glossary of technical terms.

Book Synopsis The Economic Metabolism by : Wim Heijman
Download or read book The Economic Metabolism written by Wim Heijman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Students in Technical and Agricultural faculties spend only a limited amount of time on general economics, environmental economics and resource economics. However, while their knowledge of economics may be limited, they often have adequate mathematical skills. The objective of The Economic Metabolism, therefore, is to present these three branches of economics in an integrated, mathematically oriented way, so that the subjects can be taught together, without losing time on separate economics courses. While the approach adopted is mathematical, the mathematics used is certainly not too difficult for the target group: university students in technical and/or agricultural faculties will be used to far more difficult mathematics. After studying the book, the basic/intermediate level student should be able to understand the basic principles of economics, especially microeconomics; understand the economic principles of environmental policy; understand the economic principles of resource extraction; apply the standards for efficiency and sustainability; and apply the theory to practical problems.

The book aims to make existing techniques readily accessible to both students and practitioners.
Book Synopsis Agricultural Price Policy by : Isabelle Tsakok
Download or read book Agricultural Price Policy written by Isabelle Tsakok and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many governments of developing countries burdened with international debt are under ever-increasing pressure to use their scarce economic resources wisely. Faced with slow progress in alleviating poverty and stimulating economic growth, they especially need to end wasteful subsidies and revise inefficient tax policies. This book will help staff members of government planning agencies and ministries of finance and agriculture to analyze the effects of government policies on the production, consumption, and export of agricultural commodities. The analytical techniques that Isabelle Tsakok demonstrates in this book are the essential first step in reforming agricultural price policy to bring about a more efficient allocation of resources. After mastering the techniques of single-market, partial-equilibrium analysis, which are the book's focus, policy analysts can use the techniques to identify when more sophisticated methods, such as multi-market analysis and computable general-equilibrium models, are needed to determine what agricultural price policies are "right." Tsakok begins with graphical analysis and data requirements in order to build intuitive understanding, and progresses through steadily more complex techniques, demonstrating—step by step—the calculation of domestic resource costs, effective rates of protection, and related coefficients of protection. Providing a wide range of numerical real-world examples to illustrate the practical application of the partial-equilibrium framework, Agricultural Price Policy is an invaluable reference manual and teaching tool.
