En el tomo I se analizan los componentes por separado: empezando por los pasivos (resistencias, condensadores), siguiendo por los semiconductores (diodos, transistores, tiristores), los circuitos integrados analógicos, digitales y microprogramables, los dispositivos optoelectrónicos y los transductores, finalizando con los elementos de maniobra, protección y los accesorios complementarios que permiten la implementación física del prototipo. El tomo II se reserva a los circuitos e instrumentos electrónicos. Los alumnos, a la vez que se autoevalúan haciendo los tests, pueden repasar, aprender y afianzar tanto los conceptos como los procedimientos planteados en clase.

Asimismo, se abordan los aparatos de medida e instrumentación propia de cualquier laboratorio de electrónica, incluyendo el polímetro, generador BF, fuente de alimentación y osciloscopio. Hay también un capítulo dedicado a los conceptos tecnológicos generales que facilitan una mejor comprensión de todos los temas desarrollados en ambos libros.
