Book Synopsis Tiempos, Hombres e Ideas by : José Francisco Martinez Garcia
Download or read book Tiempos, Hombres e Ideas written by José Francisco Martinez Garcia and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Reflections on Female and Trans* Masculinities and Other Queer Crossings by : Nina Kane
Download or read book Reflections on Female and Trans* Masculinities and Other Queer Crossings written by Nina Kane and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays emerged out of the Agender conference, and various queer cultural activities associated with the PoMoGaze project (Leeds Art Gallery, 2013–2015). PoMoGaze was a term created to promote queer co-curatorial projects held at the gallery as part of Community Engagement activities, and references ‘PoMo’ as a shortening of ‘Postmodern’ combined with ‘Gaze’ as a play on words linking the act of looking with LGBT*IQ activities. The book presents many voices exploring themes of female and trans* masculinities, gender equality, and the lives, work and activism of LGBT*IQ artists and thinkers. It includes discussion of arts-making, cultural materials, diverse identities, contemporary queer politics, and social histories, and travels across time telling gender-crossing stories of creative resistance. Readers with an interest in the performing and visual arts, literature, philosophy, and queer and gendered cultural readings with an intersectional emphasis, will be stimulated by this eclectic and thought-provoking collection.

Book Synopsis Discerniendo Vocaciones al Matrimonio, Celibato y Soltería by : Elias Chacour
Download or read book Discerniendo Vocaciones al Matrimonio, Celibato y Soltería written by Elias Chacour and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-03-25 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Commands by : Alexandra Y. Aikhenvald
Download or read book Commands written by Alexandra Y. Aikhenvald and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-07-04 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the form and the function of commands—directive speech acts such as pleas, entreaties, and orders—from a typological perspective. A team of internationally-renowned experts in the field examine the interrelationship of these speech acts with cultural stereotypes and practices, as well as their origins and development, especially in the light of language contact. The volume begins with an introduction outlining the marking and the meaning of imperatives and other ways of expressing commands and directives. Each of the chapters that follow offers an in-depth analysis of commands in a particular language. These analyses are cast in terms of 'basic linguistic theory'—a cumulative typological functional framework—and the chapters are arranged and structured in a way that allows useful comparison between them. The languages investigated include Quechua, Japanese, Lao, Aguaruna and Ashaninka Satipo (both from Peru), Dyirbal (from Australia), Zenzontepec Chatino (from Mexico), Nungon, Tayatuk, and Karawari (from Papua New Guinea), Korowai (from West Papua), Wolaitta (from Ethiopia), and Northern Paiute (a native language of the United States).
Book Synopsis Love is Our Mission by : Archdiocese of Philadelphia
Download or read book Love is Our Mission written by Archdiocese of Philadelphia and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2014-09-17 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We are called to acknowledge how beautiful, true and good it is to start a family, to be a family today... We are called to make known God's magnificent plan for the family...as we accompany them amidst so many difficulties." - Pope Francis, February 20, 2014 For Pope Francis, as for his predecessors Saint John Paul II and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, this is more than just talk. It is a rallying cry. This is the focus of the 2015 World Meeting of Families: Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive. For Catholics everywhere, it is a time to renew our focus on the family, the "domestic church" - what it means, why it's important, how it fits in with God's plan for us, and how we can become who God created us to be. Here is a new, fresh, and insightful way to do just that. In Love is Our Mission, Spanish edition, you can easily explore Catholic teaching on marriage, family, sexuality, children, human dignity, and the sanctity of life. It's a guided tour through scripture and 2000 years of Church teaching in which you are awakened to the relationship God wants to have with you, the family, and ultimately the world. Self-reflection or group discussion questions bring the teachings home in a very real and practical way. As Pope Francis has said, we must, "keep before us the beauty of the family and marriage, the greatness of this human reality which is so simple and yet so rich..."
Book Synopsis The Female Brain by : Louann Brizendine, MD
Download or read book The Female Brain written by Louann Brizendine, MD and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2007-08-07 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Dr. Brizendine wrote The Female Brain ten years ago, the response has been overwhelming. This New York Times bestseller has been translated into more than thirty languages, has sold nearly a million copies between editions, and has most recently inspired a romantic comedy starring Whitney Cummings and Sofia Vergara. And its profound scientific understanding of the nature and experience of the female brain continues to guide women as they pass through life stages, to help men better understand the girls and women in their lives, and to illuminate the delicate emotional machinery of a love relationship. Why are women more verbal than men? Why do women remember details of fights that men can’t remember at all? Why do women tend to form deeper bonds with their female friends than men do with their male counterparts? These and other questions have stumped both sexes throughout the ages. Now, pioneering neuropsychiatrist Louann Brizendine, M.D., brings together the latest findings to show how the unique structure of the female brain determines how women think, what they value, how they communicate, and who they love. While doing research as a medical student at Yale and then as a resident and faculty member at Harvard, Louann Brizendine discovered that almost all of the clinical data in existence on neurology, psychology, and neurobiology focused exclusively on males. In response to the overwhelming need for information on the female mind, Brizendine established the first clinic in the country to study and treat women’s brain function. In The Female Brain, Dr. Brizendine distills all her findings and the latest information from the scientific community in a highly accessible book that educates women about their unique brain/body/behavior. The result: women will come away from this book knowing that they have a lean, mean, communicating machine. Men will develop a serious case of brain envy.
Download or read book Weaving the Past written by Susan Kellogg and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-09-02 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weaving the Past offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary history of Latin America's indigenous women. While the book concentrates on native women in Mesoamerica and the Andes, it covers indigenous people in other parts of South and Central America, including lowland peoples in and beyond Brazil, and Afro-indigenous peoples, such as the Garifuna, of Central America. Drawing on primary and secondary sources, it argues that change, not continuity, has been the norm for indigenous peoples whose resilience in the face of complex and long-term patterns of cultural change is due in no small part to the roles, actions, and agency of women. The book provides broad coverage of gender roles in native Latin America over many centuries, drawing upon a range of evidence from archaeology, anthropology, religion, and politics. Primary and secondary sources include chronicles, codices, newspaper articles, and monographic work on specific regions. Arguing that Latin America's indigenous women were the critical force behind the more important events and processes of Latin America's history, Kellogg interweaves the region's history of family, sexual, and labor history with the origins of women's power in prehispanic, colonial, and modern South and Central America. Shying away from interpretations that treat women as house bound and passive, the book instead emphasizes women's long history of performing labor, being politically active, and contributing to, even supporting, family and community well-being.
