Book excerpt: O Cerrado vem sofrendo intensas mudanças no uso da terra em especial devido ao desenvolvimento agrário. O manejo inadequado dos solos tem resultado em sua degradação afetando propriedades físicas, químicas e biológicas. A diversidade da comunidade microbiana de solos e os processos que regulam esta comunidade são ainda pouco conhecidos. Com o objetivo de avaliar o impacto de diferentes usos do solo sobre a comunidade microbiana, amostras de Latossolo Vermelho (0-5 cm) foram coletadas na Fazenda Dom Bosco (Cristalina-GO) em áreas de cerrado sentido restrito e nas lavouras sob plantio direto de soja (Glicine max) e feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris) irrigado com pivô central, na linha e entrelinha de plantio. Determinou-se o teor gravimétrico de água do solo, pH e carbono da biomassa microbiana. A estrutura da comunidade microbiana foi avaliada através do uso de PCR-DGGE-Seqüenciamento de 16S e 18S rDNA. Em geral, o conteúdo gravimétrico de água, pH, carbono da biomassa microbiana e análises de PCR-DGGE 16S e 18S rDNA não diferiram nas amostras coletadas na linha e entrelinha de plantio nas áreas de cultivo de feijão e soja. Os valores médios de pH nas áreas agrícolas foram aproximadamente 14% maiores que na área nativa. Na área nativa e sob cultivo de soja foi possível observar um padrão sazonal nos valores de teor gravimétrico de água no solo e de biomassa microbiana. Entretanto, na área cultivada com soja, houve uma redução de 66% dos valores mínimos de biomassa em relação ao cerrado sentido restrito. Já na área de feijão irrigado, os valores de biomassa microbiana tenderam a não variar ao longo do ciclo de cultivo. Os dendrogramas das comunidades bacteriana e fúngica da área de soja e feijão irrigado obtidos a partir da análise do DGGE indicam primeiramente a influência do tipo de cobertura vegetal (áreas nativas x cultivadas), da presença ou ausência de cobertura (pré e pós-plantio e período de cultivo) e posteriormente do período de desenvolvimento da cultura e/ou da sazonalidade. A fertilização ocorrida na área de feijão irrigado parece ter influenciado mais a comunidade fúngica que bacteriana, pois os índices de similaridades entre as coletas foram menores. Com o seqüenciamento de bandas escolhidas nos géis de DGGE foi possível verificar a predominância das divisões actinobactéria, gammaproteobactéria, ascomicetos, basidiomicetos, chitridiomicetos e um membro do reino Protozoa.

A seleção dos atributos do solo que servirão como indicadores de qualidade de solo, os níveis críticos desses atributos e como agregá-los em um índice de qualidade são algumas das dificuldades encontradas para quantificar a qualidade do solo. No capítulo 1 dessa tese foi avaliado o uso do carbono da biomassa microbiana (CBM) e da atividade enzimática (f3-glicosidase, fosfatase ácida e arilsulfatase) como indicadores de qualidade do solo em diversos agroecossistemas da região dos cerrados comparando-os a atributos químicos (pH, matéria orgânica, teores de P, Ca, Mg, K, CTC e saturação por alumínio) e fisicos (densidade aparente, porosidade total, macroporosidade e microporosidade) do solo. Amostras de solo foram coletadas em fevereiro de 2006, na profundidade de O a 10 cm, em três áreas: área I, rotação soja/milho sob plantio direto (PD) e plantio convencional (PC) iniciado em 1992; área II, plantio de 16 anos de idade com as espécies florestais: pinus (Pinus tecunumanii), eucalipto (Eucalyptus grandis) e carvoeiro (Sclerolobium paniculatum Vogel) e área lII, experimento iniciado em 1991 com sistemas integrados lavoura/pecuária onde foram avaliados cinco sistemas de manejo: pastagem contínua de gramínea, pastagem consorciada contínua, rotação de pastagem consorciada/lavoura, rotação lavoura/pastagem consorciada e lavoura contínua sob PD. Em cada local, áreas adjacentes sob vegetação nativa de Cerrado foram incluídas no estudo sendo utilizadas como referência das condições originais do solo. Uma análise de componentes principais destacou a presença dos ipdicadores microbiológicos entre os parâmetros com maior sensibilidade para diferenciar os agroecpssistemas avaliados reforçando a importância da inclusão dos mesmos nos estudos e nos cálculos dos índices de qualidade de solo. De uma maneira geral, as diferenças detectadas por esses indicadores foram mais acentuadas quando os agroecossistemas foram comparados às áreas sob vegetação nativa. Mesmo assim os indicadores microbiológicos foram capazes de revelar diferenças entre os agroecossistemas que, muito provavelmente, não teriam sido observadas com o uso das análises de rotina de química e física de solo, especialmente na área 111. No capítulo 2 o software SIMOQS, "Sistema de Monitoramento da Qualidade do Solo", desenvolvido na Universidade Federal de Viçosa, foi utilizado para calcular Índices de Qualidade do Solo (IQS) usando atributos químicos (pH, matéria orgânica, teores de P, Ca, Mg, K, CTC e saturação por alumínio), físicos (densidade aparente, porosidade total, macroporosidade e microporosidade) e biológicos (carbono da biomassa microbiana, atividade das enzimas P-glicosidase, fosfatase ácida e arilsulfatase) e para monitorar no período de 1998 a 2006 a qualidade do solo nas áreas 1 e 3 avaliadas no capitulo 1. O uso do SIMOQS foi eficaz como ferramenta para o monitoramento da qualidade do solo nos diferentes agroecossistemas avaliados. Através dos cálculos do IQS foi possível confirmar os beneficios das pastagens bem manejadas (principalmente quando em consórcio com leguminosas), da rotação lavoura/pastagem e do plantio direto como sistemas de manejo capazes de melhorarem a qualidade dos solos de cerrado.

O impacto de sistemas agricolas nas propriedades microbiologicas dos solos da regiao dos Cerrados, especialmente aquelas ligadas ao ciclo do P, e pouco conhecido. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influencia de diferentes plantas de cobertura e dos sistemas de plantio direto (PD) e plantio com preparo convencional do solo (PC) na dinamica de alguns parametros biologicos associados ao ciclo do P. Nas estacoes seca (Julho de 1998) e chuvosa (Janeiro de 1999), foram avaliados o conteudo de P na biomassa microbiana, populacoes de microrganismos totais e solubillizadores de Pi (fungos e bacterias) e atividade da fosfatase acida em amostras de solo coletadas em duas profundidades (0-5 e 5-20 cm). As avaliacoes foram realizadas em tres areas adjacentes num Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo argiloso: area I (dois anos de implantacao do PD), area II (seis anos de implantacao do PD) e area III (solo sob vegetacao nativa de cerrado). Nas tres areas, a influencia do clima evidenciou-se atraves de aumentos significativos dos parametros avaliados na estacao chuvosa em relacao a estacao seca. A atividade de fosfatase acida e a ocorrencia de microrganismos totais e solubilizadores de fosfato nas areas com plantio direto foram significativamente superiores aos resultados encontrados nos solos sob preparo convencional, na profundidade 0-5 cm. As diferencas entre os sistemas de manejo de solo na area com 6 anos de implantacao do PD foram detectadas desde a estacao seca de 1998, enquanto que na area com 2 anos de implantacao do PD, a diferenciacao entre os dois sistemas foi evidente apenas na estacao chuvosa de 1999, demonstrando que o tempo de implantacao do sistema PD e importante na consolidacao de tais diferencas. As populacoes de fungos solubilizadores de fosfato aumentaram na presenca de guandu (Cajanus cajan) e nabo forrageiro (Raphanus sativus), enquanto o numero de bacterias solubilizadoras de fosfato aumentou somente nas parcelas de guandu. O solo de cerrado nativo apresentou os mais elevados niveis de atividade fosfatase acida em relacao as areas cultivadas, evidenciando a importancia da mineralizacao do fosfato organico neste ecossistema. Estudos de longo prazo sao necessarios para confirmar esses resultados e avaliar seus efeitos no desenvolvimento e produtividade das culturas comerciais.

Posteriormente, a ocorrencia de associacao micorrizica arbuscular em tres areas de cultivo de videira e em mudas do porta-enxerto IAC 572, forma observadas atraves da valiacao da porcentagem de colonizacao micorrizica e densidade de esporos. A colonizacao de fungos micorrizicos arbusculares nativos na videira apresentou valores medios variando de 1% e 25% e a densidade de esporos variou entre 83 e 169 esporos por 50mL de solo, sendo que nas condicoes em que o estudo foi realizado, houve influencia de cultivares de videira, do tempo de cultivo e praticas de manejo na colonizacao micorrizica.
