Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new marketing paradigm focuses on the concentrated economic power of 600 global cities. City-Centered Marketing: Why Local is the Future of Global Business is a compelling practical analysis of a new direction of marketing within the context of intensifying urbanization and the shift of global economy from West to East. Philip Kotler, one of the world's foremost marketing experts, and his brother Milton, an international marketing strategist, explain why the future of marketing must focus on top global cities and their metro regions, and not squandered resources on small cities. Marketing is city-centered activity. 600 global cities will contribute 65 percent of the global GDP of $67 trillion by 2025. The top 100 cities will contribute 25 percent of GDP, and 440 of these top 600 cities will be in the developing world. Top cities have to improve their marketing prowess in compete for the right companies and settling on the best terms. By 2025, the vast majority of consuming and middle-income households will be in developing regions. While New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago will remain major players because of high per-capita GDP and capital and intellectual assets, companies will pay more attention to growing city regions in the developing world. Multinational businesses must change the culture of their headquarters, divisions and branches, as well as their value chain stakeholders to take advantage of these market changes. The book details the strategies for sustainable growth with topics like: Resource allocation in developed versus developing city markets Shifting the focus to city regions instead of central governments The rise of new multinational corporations from developing economies Declining consumer and business growth in developed cities Cities in China, Brazil, India, and throughout the Middle East and Latin America are rising to become major players in the global marketplace. Philip and Milton Kotler argue that an inversion is taking place, and top cities are growing economically faster than their national rate of growth. These emerging city markets are critical to company growth , and City-Centered Marketing: Why Local is the Future of Global Business provides the vital information and guidelines that companies need to plan accordingly.

Ball’s Money, Banking, and Financial Markets closes the gap between economic theory and the day-to-day behavior of banks and financial markets. Working from a macro framework based on the Fed’s use of the interest rate as its major policy instrument, Ball presents the core concepts necessary to understand the problems affecting the stock market and the causes of recessions and banking crises. Underlying this framework are the intellectual foundations for the Fed’s inflation targeting using the dynamic consistency problem facing policymakers. Ball doesn’t explain how the Fed and financial markets should work; he explains how they do work on a daily basis.

Book excerpt: The most proactive source for business reference librarian information on the market, Business Reference Services and Sources: How End Users and Librarians Work Together shows you that the librarian-customer relationship is as synergistic as ever. It gives you timely facts about how librarians and users work together and how those partnerships are built. In it, you’ll encounter group projects done by faculty, students, external users, and non-librarian supervisors and discover an enlightening spirit of collaboration lacking in most research literature today. Further establishing the marketability of contemporary research librarians, Business Reference Service and Sources goes to the front lines of business reference service, solidifying and updating the librarian-user partnership. You’ll see how research librarians can reach users at the crux of their needs. Overall, individual chapters address the needs of such people as students, business school officials, and corporations. Specifically, you’ll read about these areas: Internet business research and ESL students corporate home pages as supplements to traditional business resources networking with community business sources synergy in the information specialist-customer partnership avoiding information overload in bibliographic instruction the Internet’s impact on government documents assessing the validity of electronic journals underprivileged, nontraditional students and bibliographic instruction Today, in our climate of negative ad campaigns directed at libraries and librarians in general, business reference librarians face many challenges, academic as well as professional. But if you’re one of the vocal, proactive supporters of productive librarian-customer partnerships, this book will help you “grow feet” and move out from behind the restrictive comfort of your desk into the world’s classrooms and manufacturing teams. Certainly, Business References and Sources will convince you that collaborative projects between contemporary reference librarians and end-users are alive and well.

Book excerpt: Brexit will lead to fundamental changes in the trade relations between the UK and other nations. It would pose a challenge to countries such as India that use the UK as a gateway into the EU. The loss of the Single Market would also pose a challenge to the UK and the EU. It is too early to tell how the economic rivalry between the UK and the EU will play out in the long run. Developing economies that depended on the EU are bound to be affected by the rivalry. India is one of the countries that would be affected by the economic rivalry. The paper uses a review method to determine the impact of Brexit on Indian companies both at the local and international level. It undertakes a review of some of the largest companies in India. These companies operate in industries that are bound to be affected by Brexit. Therefore, an analysis of the impact of Brexit on these companies would depict the impact of Brexit on India as a case study. The results of the paper show that India would have a positive net effect from Brexit regardless of the fact that Brexit may lead to losses in trade between the UK and India. As India is the source of FDI of the UK, Brexit would result in making other countries in the EU attractive destinations of the FDI. To avoid losing out, the UK would try harder to ensure that more capital comes from India. The UK may do this by wooing Indian companies to ensure they invest in the UK It may provide tax breaks and other incentives. Nevertheless, it is vital for India to form stronger ties with the EU since the UK has been India’s gateway to the EU. This will provide India with a wider access to the EU market. Loss of subsidies for EU students to study in the UK would necessitate the country to look for an alternative source of students. India is one of the markets that the UK would explore in the aftermath of Brexit.
