Book Synopsis China’s Assistance Program in Xinjiang by : Yuhui Li
Download or read book China’s Assistance Program in Xinjiang written by Yuhui Li and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-08-15 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China’s Assistance Program in Xinjiang: A Sociological Analysis examines the partnership assistance program (PAP) in Xinjiang of northwestern China, which was initially implemented by the Chinese government during the 1990s. It was dramatically upgraded in 2010 following the 2009 riot in Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang. The program requires that a total of nineteen provinces and municipalities from coastal and central regions of China provide a huge amount of financial, material, technical, human capital, and other resources and aid to Xinjiang for at least ten years (2010–2020). This most recent version of the PAP has generated drastic social, demographic, economic, and environmental changes in the region. Yuhui Li looks at changes in Xinjiang in recent years as a result of the PAP implementation. Xinjiang has become increasingly more industrialized, modernized, and urbanized, and is thus essential in helping the country realize the “China dream.” However, the heavily interventional PAP could bring about unexpected consequences. For example, it could potentially aggravate the already tense racial relations in the region.

Download or read book Smart Grids written by Bernd M. Buchholz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, Smart Grid has become an established synonym for modern electric power systems. Electric networks are fed less and less by large, centrally planned fossil and nuclear power plants but more and more by millions of smaller, renewable and mostly weather-dependent generation units. A secure energy supply in such a sustainable and ecological system requires a completely different approach for planning, equipping and operating the electric power systems of the future, especially by using flexibility provisions of the network users according to the Smart Grid concept. The book brings together common themes beginning with Smart Grids and the characteristics of power plants based on renewable energy with highly efficient generation principles and storage capabilities. It covers the advanced technologies applied today in the transmission and distribution networks and innovative solutions for maintaining today’s high power quality under the challenging conditions of large-scale shares of volatile renewable energy sources in the annual energy balance. Besides considering the new primary and secondary technology solutions and control facilities for the transmission and distribution networks, prospective market conditions allowing network operators and the network users to gain benefits are also discussed. The growing role of information and communication technologies is investigated. The importance of new standards is underlined and the current international efforts in developing a consistent set of standards are updated in the second edition and described in detail. The updated presentation of international experiences to apply novel Smart Grid solutions to the practice of network operation concludes this book.

Book Synopsis Smart Grids – Fundamentals and Technologies in Electricity Networks by : Bernd M. Buchholz
Download or read book Smart Grids – Fundamentals and Technologies in Electricity Networks written by Bernd M. Buchholz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficient transmission and distribution of electricity is a fundamental requirement for sustainable development and prosperity. The world is facing great challenges regarding the reliable grid integration of renewable energy sources in the 21st century. The electric power systems of the future require fundamental innovations and enhancements to meet these challenges. The European Union’s “Smart Grid” vision provides a first overview of the appropriate deep-paradigm changes in the transmission, distribution and supply of electricity. The book brings together common themes beginning with Smart Grids and the characteristics of new power plants based on renewable energy and /or highly efficient generation principles. The importance of new standards is underlined and the current international efforts in developing a consistent set of standards are described in detail. The presentation of international experiences to apply novel Smart Grid solutions to the practice of network operation concludes this book. The authors of the book worked for many years to develop Smart Grid solutions within national and international projects and to introduce them in the practice of network operations.
Book Synopsis Country Nuclear Power Profiles by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Country Nuclear Power Profiles written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA. This book was released on 2004 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preparation of Country Nuclear Power Profiles (CNPP) was initiated within the framework of the IAEA's programme on assessment and feedback of nuclear power plant performance. It responded to a need for a database and a technical publication containing a description of the energy and economic situation, the energy and the electricity sector, and the primary organizations involved in nuclear power in IAEA Member States. The CNPP covers background information on the status and development of nuclear power programmes in countries having nuclear plants in operation and/or plants under construction. It reviews the organizational and industrial aspects of nuclear power programmes in participating countries, and provides information about the relevant legislative, regulatory and international frameworks in each country. The CNPP compiles the current issues in the new environment within which the electricity and nuclear sector operates, i.e. energy policy, and privatization and deregulation in these sectors, the role of government, nuclear energy and climate change, and safety and waste management, which differ from country to country. Book Synopsis Improving the Stability of Meshed Power Networks by : Robin Preece
Download or read book Improving the Stability of Meshed Power Networks written by Robin Preece and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work in this thesis proposes the innovative use of modern technologies and mathematical techniques to analyse and control future power systems. It exploits new enabling technologies such as Voltage Source Converter High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) lines, both single and multi-terminal, and Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS) to reduce the risks of instability associated with greater utilisation of modern power systems. New control systems for these technologies have been analysed, and subsequently designed, using advanced probabilistic analysis techniques to ensure that they are robust to the variable and turbulent conditions expected in the future. The advanced probabilistic techniques used in the thesis for both system analysis and controller design represent one of the first such applications in open literature.
