Book Synopsis Devising a Clean Energy Strategy for Asian Cities by : Hooman Farzaneh
Download or read book Devising a Clean Energy Strategy for Asian Cities written by Hooman Farzaneh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book capitalizes on two hot topics: the Low Carbon Emission Development Strategies and climate change in Asian cities. There is resurgence in making policies to investigate more aspects of the energy-environment spectrum for the global energy market in the future. This book helps the policy makers and researchers to understand which actions should be taken to reduce the environmental impacts of economic activities in different regions in Asia. The clean energy strategy proposed in this book refers to the development and implementation of policies and strategies that simultaneously contribute to addressing climate change and solving local environmental problems, which also have other development impacts. It provides insights to a wide audience on successful ways to promote, design and implement the clean energy policies in Asian cities. To determine the global actions, it is necessary to make breakthroughs by promoting further research and to present scenarios that achieve Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) goals without dependence upon fossil fuels. The scenarios and case studies discussed in this book are helpful to plan for the SDGs, where various objectives have to be achieved at the same time. The UN 2030 development agenda needs innovative planning to achieve multiple goals with limited resources and generate synergy among sectors. This book will be one of the first books available on this subject.

Book Synopsis Enhancing Water Use Efficiency in Korea by : Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)
Download or read book Enhancing Water Use Efficiency in Korea written by Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report, building on a policy dialogue with a range of stakeholders in Korea, analyses how economic policy instruments under the responsibility of the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport can be adjusted to contribute to water policy objectives. It also investigates how Smart Water Management Korea, an initiative by K-water that combines information and communication technology with water technology, can be harnessed to better contribute to water management in the country. Finally, it identifies some of the limitations of prevalent water allocation regimes which need to be addressed to make the best use of available water resources. Since 1965, the Korean Government has invested heavily in quantitative development strategies to meet water needs, and despite highly variable water availability, this has allowed for and facilitated rapid urbanisation and economic growth. However, several long-term trends are expected to affect the capacity of the current water management system to adequately respond to current and future water risks, such as rapid ageing of the population, fiscal consolidation and climate change. These call for a renewed emphasis on water use efficiency.
Book Synopsis Green Urbanism in Asia by : Peter Newman
Download or read book Green Urbanism in Asia written by Peter Newman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is facing an age of scarcity which will challenge all cities to reduce their resource footprint, especially carbon, improve biodiversity and at the same time continue to create economic opportunities and liveable places. This is green urbanism. Asian urban growth is leading the world in the rapidity of its change but how is it doing on green urbanism? This book finds emerging innovations and first signs of green urbanism in Asia and suggests they may be the guiding light for the rest of the world. The authors highlight seven archetypal cities exhibiting green urbanism: the renewable energy city, the bioregional carbon neutral city, the distributed city, the biophilic city, the eco-efficient city, the place-based city and the sustainable transport city. The book is a must-read for all who are concerned with the future of our cities as it instills hope that a greener urban future is possible.
