Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communication for Command and Control Systems provides a thorough exposition of the basic theoretical and practical features involved in the design of communication networks for command and control systems. This book focuses primarily on the practical side of computer-controlled communication. This text concentrates on the communication sides of the subject by surveying the means of transferring data between the various processing points and by appraising their potential advantages and possible defects in implementation. In this respect, this book should prove useful for the practicing engineer engaged in command and control system design in civil, military, and administrative spheres. Accompanying materials such as charts and illustrations are also provided as useful reference. For the system designers, this text is a unique reference; this book also presents comparison tables that can be of practical assistance in the selection of the blocks for specific operations.

This book was released on 2000 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the best single way to summarize it is to view the book as a bureaucratic or organizational history. What the author does is to take three distinct historical themes-organization, technology, and ideology and examine how each contributed to the development of WWMCCS and its ability (and frequent inability) to satisfy the demands of national leadership. Whereas earlier works were primarily descriptive, cataloguing the command and control assets then in place or under development, The book offers more analysis by focusing on the issue of how and why WWMCCS developed the way it did. While at first glance less provocative, this approach is potentially more useful for defense decision makers dealing with complex human and technological systems in the post-cold-war era. It also makes for a better story and, I trust, a more interesting read. By necessity, this work is selective. The elements of WWMCCS are so numerous, and the parameters of the system potentially so expansive, that a full treatment is impossible within the compass of a single volume. Indeed, a full treatment of even a single WWMCCS asset or subsystem-the Defense Satellite Communications System, Extremely Low Frequency Communications, the National Military Command System, to name but a few-could itself constitute a substantial work. In its broadest conceptualization, WWMCCS is the world, and my approach has been to deal with the head of the octopus rather than its myriad tentacles.
Book Synopsis C4ISR for Future Naval Strike Groups by : National Research Council
Download or read book C4ISR for Future Naval Strike Groups written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-05-26 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Navy has put forth a new construct for its strike forces that enables more effective forward deterrence and rapid response. A key aspect of this construct is the need for flexible, adaptive command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems. To assist development of this capability, the Navy asked the NRC to examine C4ISR for carrier, expeditionary, and strike and missile defense strike groups, and for expeditionary strike forces. This report provides an assessment of C4ISR capabilities for each type of strike group; recommendations for C4ISR architecture for use in major combat operations; promising technology trends; and an examination of organizational improvements that can enable the recommended architecture.

Download or read book Advances in Command, Control & Communication Systems written by Christopher John Harris and published by IET. This book was released on 1987 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes some of the developments in Command, Control and Communication (C3) systems. The topics cover the design of large real-time man-machine systems, which are now a vital area of intensive scientific and financial investment. C3 systems are for complex resource management and planning, and although this has a predominantly military connotation, similar systems are now developing in civil sector applications, public utilities and banking. Topics discussed include the design and structure of C3 systems, databases, standards, the man-machine interface, and advanced processing, including the sensor data fusion and artificial intelligence. It is the multifaceted nature of C3 that this book seeks to capture. The subject is too vast to survey comprehensively but this text offers the reader an important insight into this critically important aspect of modern technology.
Book Synopsis Realizing the Potential of C4I by : National Research Council
Download or read book Realizing the Potential of C4I written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-06-17 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid progress in information and communications technologies is dramatically enhancing the strategic role of information, positioning effective exploitation of these technology advances as a critical success factor in military affairs. These technology advances are drivers and enablers for the "nervous system" of the militaryâ€"its command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) systemsâ€"to more effectively use the "muscle" side of the military. Authored by a committee of experts drawn equally from the military and commercial sectors, Realizing the Potential of C4I identifies three major areas as fundamental challenges to the full Department of Defense (DOD) exploitation of C4I technologyâ€"information systems security, interoperability, and various aspects of DOD process and culture. The book details principles by which to assess DOD efforts in these areas over the long term and provides specific, more immediately actionable recommendations. Although DOD is the focus of this book, the principles and issues presented are also relevant to interoperability, architecture, and security challenges faced by government as a whole and by large, complex public and private enterprises across the economy.
Book Synopsis Planning and Architectural Design of Modern Command Control Communications and Information Systems by : A. Nejat Ince
Download or read book Planning and Architectural Design of Modern Command Control Communications and Information Systems written by A. Nejat Ince and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book is Command Control Communication and Information 3 (C I) which is the management infrastructure for any large or complex dynamic resource systems. Here command means the determination of what to do, and control means the ongoing managementofthe execution ofa command. 3 Decision making is the essence of C I which is accomplished through a phased implementation of a set of facilities, communications, personnel, equipment and procedures for monitoring, forecasting, planning, directing, allocating resources, and generating options to achieve specific and general objectives. 3 The C I system that is in question here is for a strategic military command including its subordinate commands. Although the design methodology that will be expounded in the book is for a military system, it can, to a large extent, apply also to tactical military as well as to civilian management information systems (MIS). 3 A C I system is a decision making network that reflects a hierarchical organization 3 of C I nodes. Each node is responsible for the management of some portion ofthe available resources, where the higher level nodes are responsible for a 3 correspondingly greater portion of the resources. Within a C I system both command and control decision making occur at every level of the hierarchy. Command decisions at one level determine how to satisfy the management decisions at a higher level.
Book Synopsis C2 of C3: Command and Control of Command, Control, Communication Systems by :
Download or read book C2 of C3: Command and Control of Command, Control, Communication Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army's ongoing acquisition of modernized Command and Control Communications (C3) Systems portends a quantum leap in present capabilities. Tremendously expensive, the effort represents a dramatic shift from past procurement policies inasmuch as it recognizes the need for a systemic, interactive C3 network that will not only support the Army's Air Land Battle doctrine, but also the C3 needs of Joint and/or Combined operations. While the acquisition effort is laudable, the author perceives a weakness in the Army's ability to adequately manage these new-found resources. Simply put, the capabilities and complexity of existing and soon-to-be fielded systems outstrip the antiquated management techniques used for controlling these vital resources. In order to meet this challenge the author offers a conceptual approach for harnessing our C3 systems. Key to this approach is the need to accurately recognize the problem. In order to function properly, the new systems must be engineered and installed to meet very precise and exacting requirements--a need exacerbated by the trend towards increased interconnectivity and interdependence of disparate systems. The answer, therefore, lies in management systems which acknowledge and address this critical need.
