Book excerpt: In February 1998, the United States and Canada exchanged proposals for abundance-based management regimes for chinook salmon. The Chinook Technical Committee prepared this report in response to a request by the commissioners of the Pacific Salmon Commission to identify and determine the significance of those differences. Those areas of differences include: provisions for individual stock-based management, harvest regimes based on catch indices versus total mortality indices, aggregation of fisheries, harvest rate reductions, and methods for computing the allowable harvest.

The study focuses on the attitudes and values of theIndian Army officer corps over a 38-year period, from 1979 to 2017, to determine if there waschange over time, and if so, to understand the drivers of that change.
Book Synopsis Canadian Oceans Policy by : Donald Malcolm McRae
Download or read book Canadian Oceans Policy written by Donald Malcolm McRae and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with Canada's oceans management policies since the conclusion of the 1982 Convention of the Law of the Sea. That Convention set out a jurisdictional framework for the management of the world's oceans, but it did not provide states with precise guidance on all the issues that can arise. As a state with one of the world's longest coastlines, Canada was one of the principal beneficiaries under the 1982 Convention regime. A study of Canadian policy is particularly significant, as Canadian oceans management places in relief many of the difficult questions yet to be resolved. The central theme of this book, whose multidisciplinary contributors include leading Canadian participants in the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea, as well as leading Canadian academic and government oceans specialists, concerns the adequacy of the Canadian management responses to a new oceans regime which grants substantial jurisdiction to the coastal state. The chapters look at dispute settlement (maritime boundaries) and examine future Canadian and international policy directions. They are both analytical and prophetic, providing an assessment of the past and presenting a glimpse of the future. Canadian Oceans Policy provides insights into how Canada is managing the oceans and ocean resources off its coast and looks at the problems that lie ahead. The book also makes a major contribution to our understanding of an increasingly vital area of global politics. It will be of interest both to academics and policymakers and to all those concerned with the future of the oceans.
Book Synopsis Myth and Geology by : Luigi Piccardi
Download or read book Myth and Geology written by Luigi Piccardi and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2007 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is the first peer-reviewed collection of papers focusing on the potential of myth storylines to yield data and lessons that are of value to the geological sciences. Building on the nascent discipline of geomythology, scientists and scholars from a variety of disciplines have contributed to this volume. The geological hazards (such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and cosmic impacts) that have given rise to myths are considered, as are the sacred and cultural values associated with rocks, fossils, geological formations and landscapes. There are also discussions about the historical and literary perspectives of geomythology. Regional coverage includes Europe and the Mediterranean, Afghanistan, Cameroon, India, Australia, Japan, Pacific islands, South America and North America. Myth and Geology challenges the widespread notion that myths are fictitious or otherwise lacking in value for the physical sciences." -- BOOK JACKET.
