Book Synopsis The pay systems for commercial fishers in Nordic fisheries by : Nielsen, Max
Download or read book The pay systems for commercial fishers in Nordic fisheries written by Nielsen, Max and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-515/ This work maps out the pay systems used in the fisheries' sectors of Denmark, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and Norway. Based on pay information, the evolution of pay and the distribution of resource rents among participating groups are analysed. The main findings suggest that Nordic commercial fishers are well paid compared to other occupations. As more efficient fisheries management regimes are introduced fishers remaining in the sector have been able to substantially increase their salaries. Likewise, as fisheries management have evolved so has the rents captured by fishers, vessel owners, quota owners and the public. Calculations show that the introduction of ITQ like management systems have contributed substantially to societal welfare across the Nordic countries.

Australian fisheries have undergone significant management changes over the last decade and Australia is now recognised as a world leader. This book is a comprehensive analysis of fisheries management in Australia. It provides practical insight into the cross-disciplinary tools of fisheries management. It takes the reader away from the outdated notion of "managing the fish" to the reality of managing human behaviour. It does so without losing track of the fundamental need to consider the ecosystem and its components. The book covers a diverse range of contemporary topics including: sharing fisheries resources between commercial and recreational fishers, marine park planning, current regulatory and policy environments, consultative and participatory frameworks, by-catch mitigation and fisheries habitat management. It is a must for tertiary students studying fisheries, fisheries management professionals, the fishing industry and anyone else with an interest in how our valuable but finite fisheries resources are managed.

Book Synopsis The Fisheries Co-management Experience by : Douglas Clyde Wilson
Download or read book The Fisheries Co-management Experience written by Douglas Clyde Wilson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-08-31 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For two decades the idea of governments and fishers working together to manage fisheries has been advocated, questioned, disparaged and, most importantly, attempted in fisheries from North and South America through Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. This book is the first time these experiences have been pulled together in a single volume, summarized and explained. The Fisheries Co-management Experience begins with a review of the intellectual foundations of the co-management idea from several professional perspectives. Next, fisheries researchers from six global regions describe what has been happening on the ground in their area. Finally, the volume offers a set of reflections by some of the best authors in the field. The end result describes both the state-of-the-art and emerging issues for one of the most important trends in natural resources management.
