This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern energetic materials include explosives, blasting powders, pyrotechnic m- tures and rocket propellants [1, 2]. The study of high-temperature decomposition of condensed phases of propellants and their components (liquid, solid and hybrid) is currently of special importance for the development of space-system engineering [3, 4]. To better understand the burning mechanisms (stationary, nonstationary, - steady) of composite solid propellants and their components, information about the macrokinetics of their high-temperature decomposition is required [5]. To be able to evaluate the ignition parameters and conditions of safe handling of heat-affected explosives, one needs to know the kinetic constants of their high-temperature - composition. The development of new composite solid propellants characterized by high performance characteristics (high burning rates, high thermal stability, stability to intrachamber perturbations, and other aspects) is not possible without quanti- tive data on the high-temperature decomposition of composite solid propellants and their components [6]. The same reasons have resulted in signi?cant theoretical and practical interest in the high-temperature decomposition of components of hybrid propellants. It is known that hybrid propellants have not been used very widely due to the low bu- ing (pyrolysis) rates of the polymer blocks in the combustion chambers of hybrid rocket engines. To increase the burning rates it is necessary to obtain information about their relationships to the corresponding kinetic and thermophysical prop- ties of the fuels.

Book Synopsis Combustion Mechanism of Composite Propellant During Depressurization by : Horst Selzer
Download or read book Combustion Mechanism of Composite Propellant During Depressurization written by Horst Selzer and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigations of the extinguishing by depressurization resulted in a period of low gas temperature after the stop of the steady state flame and before the redevelopment of a second flame. By comparison of the depressurization rate and the time intervals for a 50% pressure decay, the continued gasification of the propellant could be measured. Surface structure analysis by Scanning Electron Microscope enabled the determination of the oxidizer/binder area ration on the extinguished surface, furthermore the burning of local spots to about 0.1 mm propellant thickness during the phase of extinguishing. The measurements included 16 different propellant mixtures at pressure levels of 25 bar, 45 bar, and 95 bar.
Book Synopsis Propellants and Explosives by : Naminosuke Kubota
Download or read book Propellants and Explosives written by Naminosuke Kubota and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-02-27 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of the classic on the thermochemistry of combustion now features five new chapters and updated coverage of significant recent developments in the field. Addressing both experimental as well as theoretical aspects, the book covers the thermochemical and combustion characteristics of all important types of energetic materials, such as explosives, propellants, and the new class of pyrolants, as well as related phenomena. It presents the fundamental bases of the energetics of materials, deflagration and detonation, thermochemical process of decomposition and combustion, plus combustion wave structures. The book also goes on to discuss the combustion mechanisms of various types of energetic materials, propellants, and explosives, based on the heat transfer process in the combustion waves. The burning rate models are also presented as an aid to understanding the rate-controlling steps of combustion processes, thus demonstrating the relationships of burning rate versus pressure and initial temperature. As a major topic new to this edition, new propulsion methods such as duct rockets, ramjets, pulse motors and thrusters are described in detail, while appendices on flow field dynamics and shock wave propagation have been added.

Book Synopsis Mechanism of Combustion of Heterogeneous Solid Propellants by :
Download or read book Mechanism of Combustion of Heterogeneous Solid Propellants written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the research is to establish the processes in solid propellant combustion that control steady and nonsteady combustion rate (composite propellants). The practical goal is to: 1. Tailor burning rate by variation of formulation (oxidizer particle size, ballistic modifiers, and choice of binders). This includes learning what processes lead to low or negative sensitivity of burning rate to pressure increase (plateau and mesa burning). 2. Determine steps in the combustion process that are most responsive to oscillatory flows (combustion instability). 3. Evaluate the combustion characteristics of new oxidizer and binder ingredients, and of propellants that include new ingredients (and compare results with those of AP oxidizer and Ap/hydrocarbon binder propellants). 4. Develop a realistic qualitative model of the combustion process that would identify the requirements for formulation of realistic analytical models.

Book Synopsis Propellants and Explosives by : Naminosuke Kubota
Download or read book Propellants and Explosives written by Naminosuke Kubota and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-22 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propellants and Explosives Explosives and propellants are termed energetic materials for containing considerable chemical energy which can be converted into rapid expansion. In contrast to simple burning of a fuel, explosives and propellants are self-contained and do not need external supply of oxygen via air. Since their energy content thus inherently creates the risk of accidental triggering of the explosive reaction, proper synthesis, formulation, and handling during production and use are of utmost importance for safety and necessitate specialist knowledge on energetic materials, their characteristics, handling, and applications. Now in its third edition, the classic on the thermochemical aspects of the combustion of propellants and explosives is completely revised and updated and includes green propellants as new topic. The combustion processes of typical energetic crystalline and polymeric materials and various types of propellants and pyrolants are presented to provide an informative, generalized approach for the understanding of the combustion mechanisms of those materials. The first half of the book represents an introductory text on pyrodynamics, describing fundamental aspects of the combustion of energetic materials. The second half highlights applications of energetic materials as propellants, explosives and pyrolants with focus on phenomena occurring in rocket motors. In addition, the appendix gives a brief overview of the fundamentals of aerodynamics and heat transfer, which is a prerequisite for the study of pyrodynamics. A detailed reference for readers interested in rocketry or explosives technology.
