Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of papers prepared for and presented at a NATO sponsored Advanced Study Institute which was held in Montechoro, Portugal during the period 16-27 April, 1990. This Institute was attended by approximately ninety delegates from fifteen countries and followed from a related Institute held in Vimeiro, Portugal in 1987 (see the book entitled "Instrumentation for Combustion and Flow in Engines", edited by D. F. G. Dur~o, J. H. Whitelaw and P. O. Witzel. The purposes of the first Institute related closely to instrumentation for use in gas-turbine combustors and the cylinders of internal-combustion engines. These topics were also addressed in the second Institute, though in a manner which was wider ranging and chosen to demonstrate and explain the development and application of measurement methods to combusting flows in general. The papers contained in this boo~ were selected to provide the reader with a comprehensive and up-to-date view of the variety of experimental techniques available to measure in combusting flows. Included are discussions of their range and applicability, potential accuracy and ease of use. Thus, the first paper provides a brief overview and the second an indication of those aspects of combustion which should influence the choice of flow property to be measured and the technique to be used.

Book Synopsis Experimental Combustion by : D. P. Mishra
Download or read book Experimental Combustion written by D. P. Mishra and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fulfilling the need for a classical approach, Experimental Combustion: An Introduction begins with an overview of the key aspects of combustion—including chemical kinetics, premixed flame, diffusion flame, and liquid droplet combustion—followed by a discussion of the general elements of measurement systems and data acquisition and analysis. In addition to these aspects, thermal flow measurements, gas composition measurements, and optical combustion diagnostics are covered extensively. Building upon this foundation in the fundamentals, the text addresses measurements, instruments, analyses, and diagnostics specific to combustion experiments, as well as: Describes the construction, working principles, application areas, and limitations of the necessary instruments for combustion systems Familiarizes the reader with the procedure for uncertainty analysis in combustion experiments Discusses advanced optical techniques, namely particle image velocimetry (PIV), laser Doppler anemometry (LDA), and planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) methods From stoichiometry to smoke meters and statistical analysis, Experimental Combustion: An Introduction provides a solid understanding of the underlying concepts and measurement tools required for the execution and interpretation of practical combustion experiments.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Thermal-fluid Sciences by : Yunus A. Çengel
Download or read book Fundamentals of Thermal-fluid Sciences written by Yunus A. Çengel and published by McGraw-Hill Company. This book was released on 2012 with total page 1045 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE FOURTH EDITION IN SI UNITS of Fundamentals of Thermal-Fluid Sciences presents a balanced coverage of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer packaged in a manner suitable for use in introductory thermal sciences courses. By emphasizing the physics and underlying physical phenomena involved, the text gives students practical examples that allow development of an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of thermal sciences. All the popular features of the previous edition are retained in this edition while new ones are added. THIS EDITION FEATURES: A New Chapter on Power and Refrigeration Cycles The new Chapter 9 exposes students to the foundations of power generation and refrigeration in a well-ordered and compact manner. An Early Introduction to the First Law of Thermodynamics (Chapter 3) This chapter establishes a general understanding of energy, mechanisms of energy transfer, and the concept of energy balance, thermo-economics, and conversion efficiency. Learning Objectives Each chapter begins with an overview of the material to be covered and chapter-specific learning objectives to introduce the material and to set goals. Developing Physical Intuition A special effort is made to help students develop an intuitive feel for underlying physical mechanisms of natural phenomena and to gain a mastery of solving practical problems that an engineer is likely to face in the real world. New Problems A large number of problems in the text are modified and many problems are replaced by new ones. Some of the solved examples are also replaced by new ones. Upgraded Artwork Much of the line artwork in the text is upgraded to figures that appear more three-dimensional and realistic. MEDIA RESOURCES: Limited Academic Version of EES with selected text solutions packaged with the text on the Student DVD. The Online Learning Center (www.mheducation.asia/olc/cengelFTFS4e) offers online resources for instructors including PowerPoint® lecture slides, and complete solutions to homework problems. McGraw-Hill's Complete Online Solutions Manual Organization System (http://cosmos.mhhe.com/) allows instructors to streamline the creation of assignments, quizzes, and tests by using problems and solutions from the textbook, as well as their own custom material.
