Download or read book Blue Notes and Sad Chords written by Brian Hebert and published by . This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This companion volume to the 27 chart topping hits found on the Beatles 1 CD allows you to see, through beautifully rendered and vividly colored Song Maps, how the Four Lads from Liverpool arranged their music, and especially, their brilliant vocal harmonies. Along with each song map are detailed descriptions of the song, back stories, recording and release dates, charting, what was going on in the Beatles' lives, as well as the author's personal reflections and memories. An additional Chord Palettes section uses the idea of an artist's colorful palette applied to sets of chords, to show how the Beatles combined different genres, namely bluesy rock n roll and sentimental pop, in the same songs. Whether you're a long-time baby boomer Beatles fan, a younger newcomer, or somewhere in between, this book will give you an entirely new appreciation for the most amazing band ever. While many books on the Beatles' music are geared towards professionals, this book is for fans and musicians with little or no formal understanding of music theory. By using simple explanations and colorful diagrams and graphics, the basics of harmony and chords are made easy to understand. Also covered: How the Beatles and their music changed over time, their roots in Liverpool's Mersey Beat and in the rich mixture of black and white elements in American popular music, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the British Invasion, and more.

Book Synopsis The Perpetual Beginner by : Dave Isaacs
Download or read book The Perpetual Beginner written by Dave Isaacs and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-13 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Perpetual Beginner is part memoir, part musical instruction manual. Relating stories of his experiences as a young musician and music student in 1980's New York, author Dave Isaacs describes the key lessons that shaped his musical life and how they can help any aspiring musician at any age. The title refers to the average music hobbyist with more enthusiasm than skill or time to practice. Many people play for years without developing more than rudimentary abilities, and some become so frustrated by the struggle that they stagnate or quit. The stories in the book and the musical lessons they impart give these "perpetual beginners" the ideas, techniques, and encouragement that will help them begin to progress again. The title also references the Zen concept of "beginner's mind", a way of approaching any endeavor with the openness and zeal of a beginner regardless of experience. Maintaining a beginner's mindset removes many of the self-limiting beliefs and inhibitions that hold many people back, thus enabling the learning process - hence the book's subtitle, "A musician's path to lifelong learning." Author Dave Isaacs is a musician, performing songwriter, and teacher based in Nashville, where he is known as the "Guitar Guru of Music Row".

Author :David Montero Publisher :Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften ISBN 13 :9783034307307 Total Pages :0 pages Book Rating :4.3/5 (73 download)
Download or read book Thinking Images written by David Montero and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essay film - 'a form that thinks' - serves to create a self-reflexive space for contemporary society by challenging expectations and demanding the creative involvement of the spectator. Using film to provoke thought has never been more important than now, when non-fiction films are gaining in popularity and playing a growing part in debates about culture and politics. This timely publication argues that the appeal of the essay film lies primarily in the dialogic engagement with the spectator and the richness of the intellectual and artistic debate it stimulates. The book focuses on the work of three key European film directors associated with the essay film: Chris Marker, Harun Farocki and José Luis Guerín. It provides a detailed analysis of several films by each director, exploring the relationship between dialogism and essayism in their work and placing this in the wider context of debates on the cinematic essay as a genre. Central aspects of essayistic filmmaking are explored, including its radical approach to knowledge, its distinctive patterns of subjectivity, its challenging of the formal representation of reality, and its contribution to new understandings of spectatorship. Written with clarity and perception, this volume offers new insights into the rise of the non-fiction film and the essay film, in particular.
