Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers a collection of reprints on the Hubbard Model. The major contributions to the subject since its origin are included, with the aim of providing all scientists working on the model and its applications with easy access to the relevant literature. The book is divided into five parts. The introductory part is concerned with the physical origin and motivations of the model, and contains a collection of mainly historical papers. The remaining four sections are intended to present a coherent scenario of the different approaches to the model solution: exact and rigorous statistical mechanics results; variational methods; perturbative approaches; numerical Quantum Monte Carlo and exact diagonalization studies. Among the applications special emphasis is given to high-Tc superconductivity. Each section is preceded by commentary notes from the editor.

Book excerpt: International Tables for Crystallography is the definitive resource and reference work for crystallography and structural science. Each of the volumes in the series contains articles and tables of data relevant to crystallographic research and to applications of crystallographic methods in all sciences concerned with the structure and properties of materials. Emphasis is given to symmetry, diffraction methods and techniques of crystal-structure determination, and the physical and chemical properties of crystals. The data are accompanied by discussions of theory, practical explanations and examples, all of which are useful for teaching. Volume G deals with methods and tools for organizing, archiving and retrieving crystallographic data. The volume describes the Crystallographic Information File (CIF), the standard data exchange and archival file format used throughout crystallography. The volume is divided into five parts: Part 1 – An introduction to the development of CIF. Part 2 – Details concepts and specifications of the files and languages. Part 3 – Discusses general considerations when defining a CIF data item and the classification and use of data. Part 4 - Defines all the data names for the core and other dictionaries. Part 5 - Describes CIF applications, including general advice and considerations for programmers. The accompanying software includes the CIF dictionaries in machine-readable form and a collection of libraries and utility programs. Volume G is an essential guide for programmers and data managers handling crystal-structure information, and provides in-depth information vital for recording or using single-crystal or powder diffraction data in small-molecule, inorganic and biological macromolecular structure science. Book excerpt: Books in this series highlight some of the most interesting works presented at symposia sponsored by the St. Petersburg Mathematical Society. Aimed at researchers in number theory, field theory, and algebraic geometry, the present volume deals primarily with aspects of the theory of higher local fields and other types of complete discretely valuated fields. Most of the papers require background in local class field theory and algebraic $K$-theory; however, two of them, ``Unit Fractions'' and ``Collections of Multiple Sums'', would be accessible to undergraduates.

This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores in detail Kierkegaard's various relations to his German contemporaries. Kierkegaard read German fluently and made extensive use of the writings of German-speaking authors. Apart from his contemporary Danish sources, the German sources were probably the most important in the development of his thought generally. This volume represents source-work research dedicated to tracing Kierkegaard's readings and use of the various German-speaking authors in the different fields in a way that is as clearly documented as possible. The volume has been divided into three tomes reflecting Kierkegaard's main areas of interest with regard to the German-speaking sources, namely, philosophy, theology and a more loosely conceived category, which has here been designated "literature and aesthetics." This first tome treats the German philosophical influences on Kierkegaard. The dependence of Danish philosophy on German philosophy is beyond question. In a book review in his Hegelian journal Perseus, the poet, playwright and critic, Johan Ludvig Heiberg laments the sad state of philosophy in Denmark, while lauding German speculative philosophy. Moreover, Kierkegaard's lifelong enemy, the theologian Hans Lassen Martensen claims without exaggeration that the Danish systems of philosophy can be regarded as the "disjecta membra" of earlier German systems. All of the major German idealist philosophers made an impact in Denmark: Kant, Fichte, Schelling, and most significantly, Hegel. Kierkegaard was widely read in the German philosophical literature, which he made use of in countless ways throughout his authorship.

Book excerpt: It is well established that the tumor microenvironment(TME) plays a pivotal role in tumor initiation, progression and therapeutic resistance by creating a dynamic interaction with cancer cells. TME is comprised of extracellular matrix (ECM), growth factors, nutrients, blood and lymphatic vessels, and non-cancer stromal cells, which serve as a sustained niche for cancer cells to proliferate and metastasize. Notably, various cellular components in TME, including endothelial cells, fibroblasts, pericytes, adipocytes, immune cells, cancer stem cells, and vasculature, could promote tumor’s immune evasion and growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L’Écriture est la peinture de la voix honours and celebrates the inestimable contributions that Professor Nicholas Cronk has made to our understanding of the Enlightenment. As director of the University of Oxford’s Voltaire Foundation, he has played a decisive role in eighteenth-century studies. In particular he has shaped our knowledge of Voltaire as a writer, celebrity and era-defining figure whose influence has continued to be felt through the centuries. Comprising essays by a host of internationally eminent scholars, this volume is a fitting tribute to the esteem and affection in which Nicholas Cronk is held as a colleague, teacher and mentor. These sixteen essays reflect his varied research interests, exploring questions central to the eighteenth century, such as the writing process, justice, revolution, as well as the legacy of the Enlightenment, and focussing on the central figure in Nicholas Cronk’s research: Voltaire. In sections devoted to Voltaire’s writing practices, to his involvement in political, literary and religious polemics, and finally to his legacy, the essays build on Nicholas Cronk’s scholarship and editorial achievements, opening up a new chapter in research on Voltaire. This volume is complemented by an online collection of essays which speak to other topics central to Nicholas Cronk’s interests, such as authorial identities, correspondence and aesthetics.
