The illumination of basic issues in Chinese politics in the context of this case, especially as regards the role of Mao Zedong, is relevant not only to the initial post-1949 period of comparative, but flawed, party unity, but also to the structural fault lines of the political system which were later to contribute so significantly to the Cultural Revolution.

Book excerpt: It is a pleasant task to welcome the appearance of the American edition of Professor Willy Kraus' valuable work on the economic and social development of the People's Republic of China, first published in German in 1979. The book has been updated in the light of the events that have occurred since the original publication and incorporates the latest statistical information made available by the Chinese authorities with unaccus tomed liberality. The American edition, like its German predecessor, is a monumental achievement of scholarship, attractively presented. In its comprehensiveness, insight, professionalism and wisdom it ranks among the best studies of the subject. It will add to the knowledge of the specialist, and help the interested layman find his way through the complexities of contemporary China's socioeconomic system. Professor Kraus' work is a most timely and welcome addition to a better and more thorough understanding of an absorbing and important subject. June 1982 Jan S. Prybyla Professor of Economics The Pennsylvania State University University Park, Pennsylvania Preface This book deals with China's development policies. It is based on the original German edition (1979), "Wirtschaftliche Entwicklung und sozialer Wandel in der Volksrepublik China," but is not merely a translation of the German original. The rapid changes in Chinese policy within the last two years, together with a sudden deluge of official data on economic and social developments in the People's Republic of China, have called for a basic and comprehensive revision of text and statistics.

This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tibet is a mountainous region in Asia that has been a source of conflict between China and India for centuries. The book "Rise & Fall of Tibet: Challenges and Opportunities for India" examines the history of Tibet, from its rise as a powerful Buddhist kingdom to its fall to Chinese rule in the 1950s. The book also explores the challenges and opportunities that Tibet's current status as a Chinese territory presents for India. The book begins by providing a brief overview of Tibet's geography, history, and culture. It then goes on to discuss the rise of Tibet as a powerful Buddhist kingdom in the 7th century. The book also examines the Mongol invasion of Tibet in the 13th century, which led to a period of decline for the Tibetan empire. The book then turns to the 20th century, when Tibet came under increasing Chinese influence. In 1950, the Chinese People's Liberation Army invaded Tibet, and the Tibetan government was forced into exile. The book discusses the challenges that Tibetans have faced under Chinese rule, including political repression, cultural assimilation, and environmental degradation. The book also explores the opportunities that Tibet's current status as a Chinese territory presents for India. Tibet is strategically located on the border between India and China, and it has important economic and environmental resources. The book discusses how India can use its relationship with Tibet to promote its own interests in the region. "Rise & Fall of Tibet: Challenges and Opportunities for India" is a comprehensive and well-researched book that provides a valuable overview of Tibet's history and its current status as a Chinese territory. The book is essential reading for anyone interested in understanding the challenges and opportunities that Tibet presents for India.

Download or read book Chinese Political Thought written by Y.P. Chen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Affairs, I am necessarily concerned about the future role of Communist China in world affairs. A true understanding of Peking's foreign policy motives and objectives is possible only if one has a grasp of the ideological foundations and conflicts of the contemporary leaders of the Chinese Communist Party. Therein lies the value of Professor Yung Ping Chen's revised edition Chinese Political Thought: Mao Tse-tung and Liu Shao-chi. Within a compact number of pages, Professor Chen's book provides the rt~ader with a clear and ready grasp of the fundamentals of Com munist Chinese ideology. Although its scholarship is evident, the work's interpretation do not overwhelm the reader with lengthy quotations or confuse him with excessive speculations-difficulties sometimes associa ted with books about China. Instead, Professor Chen appears to have the ability to reduce complicated ideas to manageable proportions. In his revised edition, the author makes use of source material which recently has become available outside China to clarify issues involved in the "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution." That phenomenon, which has caused so much wonder and speculation in the West, is analyzed by Professor Chen. He describes for the reader the underlying ideological factors which have emerged from the great turmoil in China, placing them within a framework of verified historical events while avoiding the pitfall of endless theorizing about situations and events inside China about which too little is yet known.
