Book Synopsis Measurement of Neutrino Interactions and Three Flavor Neutrino Oscillations in the T2K Experiment by : Tatsuya Kikawa
Download or read book Measurement of Neutrino Interactions and Three Flavor Neutrino Oscillations in the T2K Experiment written by Tatsuya Kikawa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-18 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the author's work in the T2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment, in which neutrinos are generated by a proton beam and are detected by near and far neutrino detectors. In order to achieve the precise measurement of the neutrino oscillation, an accurate understanding of the neutrino beam and the neutrino interaction is essential. Thus, the author measured the neutrino beam properties and the neutrino interaction cross sections using a near neutrino detector called INGRID and promoted a better understanding of them. Then, the author performed a neutrino oscillation analysis using the neutrino beam and neutrino interaction models verified by the INGRID measurements. As a result, some values of the neutrino CP phase are disfavored at the 90% confidence level. If the measurement precision is further improved, we may be able to discover the finite CP phase which involves the CP violation. Thus, this result is an important step towards the discovery of CP violation in the lepton sector, which may be the key to understanding the origin of the matter–antimatter asymmetry in the universe.

Book Synopsis Neutrino Physics by : Hans Volker Klapdor-Kleingrothaus
Download or read book Neutrino Physics written by Hans Volker Klapdor-Kleingrothaus and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutrinos play an intriguing role in modern physics linking central questions of particle physics, cosmology and astrophysics. The contributions in this book reflect the present status of neutrino physics with emphasis on non-accelerator or beyond-accelerator experiments. Since a nonvanishing neutrino mass would yield an important boundary condition for GUT, SUSY or Superstring models and since neutrinos are the best candidates for dark matter in the universe, the many efforts to look for a neutrino mass, ranging from neutrino oscillation experiments using reactors, accelerators or the sun as neutrino sources, to tritium decay experiments and the search for neutrinoless double beta decay, are described in some detail. One of the sections is devoted to neutrinos from collapsing stars, including the supernova SN 1987 A. Possibilities for detecting cosmological neutrinos are discussed and an outlook to future experiments is given.

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This was the most recent in a highly esteemed series of biannual Rochester conferences. 20 invited reviews and about 200 invited contributions on all aspects of current research in high energy and particle physics give a complete and lively account of achievements, activities and goals in the field. Topics discussed include results from proton-antiproton and electron-positron colliders, spectroscopy and decays of heavy flavors, weak mixing and CP violation, non-accelerator particle physics, heavy ion collisions, future accelerators, detector developments, the standard electroweak model and beyond, the status of perturbative QCD, superstrings and unification, new developments in field theory, non-perturbative methods, and cosmology and astrophysics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second open access volume of the handbook series deals with detectors, large experimental facilities and data handling, both for accelerator and non-accelerator based experiments. It also covers applications in medicine and life sciences. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access
Book Synopsis Neutrino-Nucleus Interactions in the Few-Gev Region by : Geralyn P. Zeller
Download or read book Neutrino-Nucleus Interactions in the Few-Gev Region written by Geralyn P. Zeller and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2008-01-15 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NuInt07, the fifth in a series of international workshops, was held at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, IL. It was the successful continuation of a series of workshops focused solely on the understanding and measurement of low energy neutrino-nucleus interactions. Neutrino cross sections in the few-GeV energy range are an important ingredient for neutrino oscillation experiments as well as being interesting in their own right. Such measurements and their accompanying theoretical calculations had not been updated for decades. The goal of this workshop series has been to remedy this situation by providing an environment where both experimentalists and theorists in nuclear and high energy physics can come together to review and discuss recent progress in neutrino-nucleus measurements and calculations.

Book Synopsis Neutrino Physics - Proceedings Of Nobel Symposium 129 by : Lars Bergstrom
Download or read book Neutrino Physics - Proceedings Of Nobel Symposium 129 written by Lars Bergstrom and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006-03-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobel Symposium 129 on Neutrino Physics was held at Haga Slott in Enköping, Sweden during August 19-24, 2004. Invited to the symposium were around 40 globally leading researchers in the field of neutrino physics, both experimental and theoretical. The dominant theme of the lectures was neutrino oscillations, which after several years were recently verified by results from the Super-Kamiokande detector in Kamioka, Japan and the SNO detector in Sudbury, Canada. Discussion focused especially on effects of neutrino oscillations derived from the presence of matter and the fact that three different neutrinos exist. Since neutrino oscillations imply that neutrinos have mass, this is the first experimental observation that fundamentally deviates from the standard model of particle physics. This is a challenge to both theoretical and experimental physics. The various oscillation parameters will be determined with increased precision in new, specially designed experiments. Theoretical physics is working intensively to insert the knowledge that neutrinos have mass into the theoretical models that describe particle physics. The lectures provided a very good description of the intensive situation in the field right now. The topics discussed also included mass models for neutrinos, neutrinos in extra dimensions as well as the “seesaw mechanism,” which provides a good description of why neutrino masses are so small. This book is A4 size and in full color.
