Book Synopsis Safety and efficacy of radiopharmaceuticals by : Knud Kristensen
Download or read book Safety and efficacy of radiopharmaceuticals written by Knud Kristensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety and efficacy of radiopharmaceuticals are elements of great importance in nuclear medicine. Since the first meeting in 1965 in Oak Ridge with the title Radiopharmaceuticals tremendous developments have taken place. In 1965 the whole technetium-99m area was just in its very beginning. Safety and efficacy of the non-radioactive pharmaceuticals have attracted great attention during the last 10 years and so have similar aspects of radiopharmaceuticals during the later years. Regulatory agencies are extending their work also to the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals at hospitals and to requirements for registration of radiopharmaceuticals. In a fast developing field there might be tendencies to confrontation between interests and there have certainly been some tendencies to put undue restrictions on the use of radio pharmaceuticals due to the lack of understanding between the industry and the regulatory authorities and between regulatory authorities and hospitals. Much of this may have been due to lack of information and certainly is due to the lack of fundamental scientific knowledge in many radiopharmaceutical aspects. A fast and safe introduction of new radio pharmaceuticals and the proper handling of these requires a lot of development work, but also an understanding of how general principles from the non-radioactive drug field may be sensibly transformed into the radiopharmaceutical area. It may even require compromises between requirements for safety in different areas such as radiation protection and pharmaceutical aspects.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Animal Law by : Cooper
Download or read book An Introduction to Animal Law written by Cooper and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legislation relating to animals has ancient origins and in many civilizations certain species have held particular significance, be it religious, cultural, nutritional, or sporting. As a general rule, the law was primarily concerned with animals as property, rather than in need of protection, until the 19th century. Since the 1970s animal law has proved to be a growth area in the production and enforcement of both national and international legislation. This has been particularly so in the areas of conservation and welfare and there has been extensive legal and philosophical consideration of the status of animals. This book is not intended to be a standard text, but rather a handbook in the true sense, a guide for the lay person--namely, to help the non-lawyer to understand the basic concepts of animal law and to provide the lawyer (who is the lay person in the world of animal science) with an introduction to relevant concepts and literature which are not normally found in the conventional legal texts.
Book Synopsis Clinical Nuclear Medicine by : K. E. Britton
Download or read book Clinical Nuclear Medicine written by K. E. Britton and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear medicine is the bridge between a particular clinical problern and a relevant test using radionuclides. It began as a minor technical tool used in a few branches of medicine, notably endocrinology and nephrology. However, throughout the world it has now become established as a clinical discipline in its own right, with specific training programmes, special skills and a particular approach to patient management. Although the practising nuclear medicine physician must necessarily learn a great deal of basic science and technology, a sound medical training and a clinical approach to the subject remains of fundamental importance. It is for this reason that we have attempted in this book to approach the subject from a clinical standpoint, including where necessary relevant physiological material. There exist many excellent texts which cover the basic science and technology of nuclear medicine. We have, therefore, severely limited our coverage of these aspects of the subject to matters which we felt tobe essential, particularly those which have been less well covered in other texts- for example, the contents of Chapter 20 on Measurement by Royal and McNeill. Similarly, we have limited details of methodology to skeletal summaries of protocol (Appendix 1) and have included at the end of some chapters descriptions of particular techniques where we and the authors felt that it would be helpful.
Book Synopsis The Care of Radiation Casualties by : John Blakely
Download or read book The Care of Radiation Casualties written by John Blakely and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Care of Radiation Casualties provides information for medical staff confronted by casualties from a radiation accident, so that they can understand what has happened, recognize the early stages of the illness and treat the patients during the first few days. The doctor concerned may work in a hospital or industrial medical department, or he may merely be the nearest medical man available; but whichever it is, he will require knowledge which does not appear in standard textbooks. This book should help doctors in hospital and general practice, and nursing staff and others in the nuclear energy industry. Enough background information has also been included for it to act as a general introduction for anyone interested in the circumstances and management of acute radiation injury and radioactive contamination, and the possible late effects of such injury. This might apply to members of health physics teams and those who wish to know something of the medical issues involved in these accidents.

Book Synopsis Standard Operating Procedures Analytical Chemistry and Metabolism by : I.P. Sword
Download or read book Standard Operating Procedures Analytical Chemistry and Metabolism written by I.P. Sword and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) compiled from documents prepared in these laboratories in part fulfilment of the requirements of various Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and guidelines. SOPs have now become an everyday feature of work in most industrial and contract toxicology laboratories. They provide a written definition of the mechanics of unit operations which together comprise the framework for experiments in safety evaluation. Metabolic studies and analytical chemistry are closely linked to toxicology since they embody essential aspects of the overall assessment of product safety. Some authorities consider certain parts of these subjects to be outwith the scope of the GLP requirements but for the reasons stated this is contrary to our own view. We have tried where possible to define in SOP format for use in our own laboratories the unit operations involved in these disciplines and they form the basis of this volume. Some relevant material from previous volumes has been brought together in updated form and is also presented here for completeness. Dr I P Sword Managing Director Inveresk Research International Musselburgh EH21 7UB Scotland ix Introduction GENERAL 1. The Food and Drug Administration of the US Government published its Good Laboratory Practice Regulations for Non-Clinical Laboratory Studies in the Federal Register (22 December 1978). The Regulations are the culmin ation of a number of years of investigation into the standards to which safety evaluation studies were performed in laboratories in the USA.
