Yabancı dil öğrenirken gramer yapılarını öğrenmekte genellikle çok zorluk yaşamayız, zaman zaman bazı konularda zorlansak da yaptığımız tekrarlarla bu konulara da hâkim oluruz. Bununla birlikte gramer bilgimiz ne kadar iyi olursa olsun kelime bilgimiz yetersiz olduğunda mevcut gramer bilgimizden de yararlanamadığımızı görürüz. Okuduğumuz metinleri ve dinlediğimiz konuşmaları anlayamaz ve konuşamayız. Yabancı dil öğreniminde kelime bilgisini artırmak kaçınılmaz bir gerekliliktir ancak söz konusu kelime haznemizi artırmak olduğunda işlerin gramer çalışmak kadar rahat olmadığını görürüz. Öğrenilmesi gereken kelimelerin çokluğu, kelimeleri akılda tutamamak ve sürekli unutmak, uzun çalışma süreleri gözümüzü korkutarak çoğunlukla vaz geçmemize neden olur veya çalışmayı daha ileri bir tarihe erteleriz ki bu da vazgeçmenin daha kabul edilebilir bir şeklidir. İngilizce kelime ezberlemeyi kolaylaştırmak amacıyla sizin için hazırladığımız sette kelimeleri en çok ihtiyaç duyulandan başlayarak öğrenebilmeniz için kullanım yoğunluğuna göre sınıflandırdık. KELİME LİSTELERİ VE SIRALAMALARI Bu setteki kelime listeleri oluşturulurken ana dili İngilizce olan ülkelerde gündelik konuşmalarda kelimelerin kullanım frekanslarını, yani kelimelerin gün içerisinde tekrarlanma yoğunluğunu öncelikli olarak baz alan kapsamlı araştırmalardan yararlanılmıştır. Bazı kelimelerin yazılışları aynı olmasına karşın anlamları farklıdır ve bunlar ayrı kelimeler olarak kabul edilmektedir. Kelime frekansları oluşturulurken de bu doğrultuda aynı bilimsel metodoloji kullanılmıştır. Örneğin: Turn right at the first traffic light. İlk trafik ışığından sağa dönün. Cümlesinde right, sağ (yön, taraf) anlamındayken. You are right. Haklısın. Cümlesinde right, doğru, haklı anlamalarına gelmektedir ve bunlar farklı kelimeler olarak kabul edilmektedir. Biz de sıralamanın bozulmaması için bu iki kelimeyi farklı kelimeler olarak aldık ve farklı anlamları için tekrar yer verdik. Bir yerde right: sağ (yön) anlamıyla verilmişken, başka bir noktada right: doğru haklı anlamıyla verildi.
