Book excerpt: What you are about to read takes place on a distant parallel earth whereupon automobiles so happen to be living creations. There exists upon this parallel earth a collective of six individuals who refer to themselves as Club AutoRape. They do not see the automobile in the same light as many others and find its existence to be utterly offensive. In a quest to gather the necessary resources to one day give an automobile the kind of treatment it so deserves, these individuals managed to utilize a sliding device and a top-secret military program to their advantage. They have constructed a compound existing on a parallel earth designed for the sole purpose of disciplining the automobile. These individuals have furthermore taken advantage of a top-secret military program in which they have become what could only be considered as redesigned humans with android properties. Using the very best of cybernetics and nanotchnology, these individuals have been given the ability to alter their strength and their heights at will. With the ability to reach heights of twenty feet, one of these individuals could theoretically rip a car apart with his bare hands. It took these individuals ten years to construct a compound so designed to make what would otherwise be nothing but a fantasy a reality. These are the stories of these individuals and the cars they have captured for discipline. It is advised to first read the introductory story (link below), then feel free to indulge in the destruction of the automobile. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6NvzUZVlbePVTBrTkhYazVPVVU/view?usp=sharing

Book excerpt: I Will Survive is the story of Gloria Gaynor, America's "Queen of Disco." It is the story of riches and fame, despair, and finally salvation. Her meteoric rise to stardom in the mid-1970s was nothing short of phenomenal, and hits poured forth that pushed her to the top of the charts, including "Honey Bee," "I Got You Under My Skin," "Never Can Say Goodbye," and the song that has immortalized her, "I Will Survive," which became a #1 international gold seller. With that song, Gloria heralded the international rise of disco that became synonymous with a way of life in the fast lane - the sweaty bodies at Studio 54, the lines of cocaine, the indescribable feeling that you could always be at the top of your game and never come down. But down she came after her early stardom, and problems followed in the wake, including the death of her mother, whose love had anchored the young singer, as well as constant battles with weight, drugs, and alcohol. While her fans always imagined her to be rich, her personal finances collapsed due to poor management; and while many envied her, she felt completely empty inside. In the early 1980s, sustained by her marriage to music publisher Linwood Simon, Gloria took three years off and reflected upon her life. She visited churches and revisited her mother's old Bible. Discovering the world of gospel, she made a commitment to Christ that sustains her to this day.

Book excerpt: What is a musical instrument? What are the musical instruments of the future? This anthology presents thirty papers selected from the fifteen year long history of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). NIME is a leading music technology conference, and an important venue for researchers and artists to present and discuss their explorations of musical instruments and technologies. Each of the papers is followed by commentaries written by the original authors and by leading experts. The volume covers important developments in the field, including the earliest reports of instruments like the reacTable, Overtone Violin, Pebblebox, and Plank. There are also numerous papers presenting new development platforms and technologies, as well as critical reflections, theoretical analyses and artistic experiences. The anthology is intended for newcomers who want to get an overview of recent advances in music technology. The historical traces, meta-discussions and reflections will also be of interest for longtime NIME participants. The book thus serves both as a survey of influential past work and as a starting point for new and exciting future developments.

Book excerpt: In planning for a sustainable future for our planet, it is vital that we achieve a seamless and benign biointegration of all human interventions in the natural environment. Finding green design solutions for our built environment must start from the wider scale of regional and urban planning and must then be carried right through to infrastructural engineering, architecture and industrial design. Masterplanning affords the chance to redress current environmental imbalances and to reduce the consequences of our built systems on the environment, with the greater and of reversing climate change. Ecomasterplanning presents a groundbreaking integrative and comprehensive approach to masterplanning, illustrated by examples that Ken Yeang – the original pioneer of the ‘green skyscraper’ – has designed in a highly visually driven format, the book examines over 20 of his masterplans from around the world, including those in the Netherlands, china, India, Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore and North America.
