Book Synopsis Climate Change Politics in Europe by : Lyn Jaggard
Download or read book Climate Change Politics in Europe written by Lyn Jaggard and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2007-06-29 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 21st century, the climate change debate is increasingly moving up the agenda. In this topical book, Lyn Jaggard evaluates the role of ideas in the evolution of the politics of climate change. She investigates the evolution of climate change policy in the European Union and specifically Germany's role in the international relations of climate change. Jaggard argues that Germany's federal system has facilitated the political mainstreaming of popular environmental concerns which has led to the development of effective environmental domestic and foreign policy-making, influencing both European and wider climate change policy.

Book Synopsis Climate Policy Changes in Germany and Japan by : Rie Watanabe
Download or read book Climate Policy Changes in Germany and Japan written by Rie Watanabe and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate Policy Changes in Germany and Japan compares two decades of climate policy development in Germany and Japan. It examines whether there is any difference between the types and levels of policy change in the two countries, and, if so, what factors account for the difference. Using a comparison of climate policy changes in Germany and Japan from 1987 to 2005 as a basis, it also discusses the effectiveness and the limits of existing theories of policy change and policy process, most notably the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF), Punctuated Equilibrium Approach and Multiple Stream Approach, and explores the theoretical question as to how long-term, paradigmatic policy change takes place. The book lastly presents a hypothetical model of the mechanisms of paradigmatic policy change. The two countries form a useful comparative approach to the issue of climate change. They represent the range of types and levels of changes in policies to control CO2 emissions in the industrial and energy sectors (dependent variables), while also demonstrating similarities in a number of independent variables: the size and structure of their economies; their shares in global GHG emissions; their general policy-making styles, including strong administrative systems and close relationships between ministries and industries; and their general environmental policies. Climate Policy Changes in Germany and Japan will be of interest to students and scholars of environmental and comparative politics.

Book Synopsis Urban Cooperation and Climate Governance by : Jan Beermann
Download or read book Urban Cooperation and Climate Governance written by Jan Beermann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jan Beermann addresses persistent research gaps in urban climate governance and North-South cooperation. He compares the form, processes and outcomes of four local climate protection projects conducted as part of German-Indian urban cooperation and explores the conditions associated with the success and/or failure in these initiatives. The study concludes that North-South city partnerships struggle to fully realise their potential to foster global climate protection efforts, specifically in terms of post-project sustainability, multi-level governance coordination, and mutuality. On the basis of these findings, practical policy recommendations on how to maximise the outcomes and broaden the scope of urban climate cooperation are provided.
Book Synopsis Competing Climate Cultures in Germany by : Sarah Kessler
Download or read book Competing Climate Cultures in Germany written by Sarah Kessler and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2024-03-31 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite frequent protests and abounding discussions about the subject, climate action measures to counter human-made climate change have so far remained largely ineffective. By identifying profound climate-cultural differences, Sarah Kessler offers an explanation to this issue and shows that conventional assumptions of an implicit consensus on the need to prioritise climate action should be reconsidered. She uncovers climate-cultural variations in (implicit and explicit) denial of climate change and thus challenges existing approaches that treat the German public as a unified entity waiting to be activated by the right kind of rationally convincing information.

Book Synopsis Orchestrating Local Climate Policy in the European Union by : Lena Bendlin
Download or read book Orchestrating Local Climate Policy in the European Union written by Lena Bendlin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-13 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we sidestep tedious climate policy negotiations and forge a coalition of the willing instead? Many international organizations and scholars hope to spur local climate action by orchestration, indirect and voluntary governance arrangements. Lena Bendlin looks beyond the apparent success of voluntary initiatives using the example of the Covenant of Mayors, often heralded as an exemplary multi-level EU initiative. Five in-depth case studies show why, how, and with what difficulties local governments engage in this voluntary commitment scheme. The analysis identifies durability, intensity, and causality as crucial building blocks for more cautious orchestration theorizing and derives recommendations for appropriate incentives and support at the regional, national, and international level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - Environmental Policy, grade: 1,3, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI)), course: International Environmental Politics, language: English, abstract: This essay seeks to shed light on the role of the Federal Republic of Germany in EU environmental policy-making. In order to achieve this, the structure of this essay is threefold. First of all, a short introduction is given, outlining the history of EU environmental legislation until present day. In a second step, Germany’s possibilities and efforts towards uploading its environmental policy (Umweltpolitik) in EU legislation processes are analyzed. Here, special attention will be paid to Germany’s efforts in the field of climate change within the European Commission (hereafter: Commission), the Council of the European Union (hereafter: Council), and the European Parliament (hereafter: EP). Finally, the findings are summarized and analyzed, looking at future prospects.
