Download or read book Building Aerial Photo Interpretation Keys to the NWO FEC S-types and V-types in the Roslyn Lake Study Area written by John A. Johnson and published by Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. : Great Lakes Forestry Centre. This book was released on 1997 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a case study of the development of aerial photo interpretation (API) keys that may assist resource managers in the identification of the classification units of the Northwestern Ontario Forest Ecosystem Classification (NWOFEC) on 1:15,840 scale black & white photos. The first part contains a brief historical overview of site classification activities in Ontario, and describes the NWOFEC system, some of its current applications, and past efforts to interpret photos and map the classification units. Basic techniques for interpreting landform, soil, and vegetation features on intermediate-scale black & white aerial photos are also presented. The method of developing API keys is then detailed, including phases of data collection, photo interpretation, and key construction. The final section demonstrates all aspects of development of the keys, including description of the study area's soil and vegetation characteristics, the creation of toposequence models, the framework for each key, and photo stereograms that illustrate a variety of interpreted features. The full API keys are presented in stand-alone format in appendices along with tips for applying them.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the Forum was to reach a consensus on what are the mapping and forestry applications that airborne scanner technology can fill now or in the near future; what are the appropriate sensors, processing systems, and analysis methods; what developments are needed to get the applications implemented; what expertise is available; and what is the likelihood of success. The key to achieving this objective was to develop an understanding by all participants of the application problems, financial constraints, technical problems, and scientific issues. Part 1 of this report consists of syntheses of introductory presentations and the work session discussions, as well as a summary of the wrap-up session. Part 2 contains the papers presented and the banquet speech is in part 3. Appendices include the final agenda, questions for the work sessions, an executive summary of other relevant initiatives mentioned during the Forum, and a list of participants.

Book Synopsis Guidelines for Soil Description by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book Guidelines for Soil Description written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soils are affected by human activities, such as industrial, municipal and agriculture, that often result in soil degradation and loss. In order to prevent soil degradation and to rehabilitate the potentials of degraded soils, reliable soil data are the most important prerequisites for the design of appropriate land-use systems and soil management practices as well as for a better understanding of the environment. The availability of reliable information on soil morphology and other characteristics obtained through examination and description of the soil in the field is essential, and the use of a common language is of prime importance. These guidelines, based on the latest internationally accepted systems and classifications, provide a complete procedure for soil description and for collecting field data. To help beginners, some explanatory notes are included as well as keys based on simple test and observations.--Publisher's description.

Book Synopsis Faecal Sludge Management by : Linda Strande
Download or read book Faecal Sludge Management written by Linda Strande and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that literally billions of residents in urban and peri-urban areas of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are served by onsite sanitation systems (e.g. various types of latrines and septic tanks). Until recently, the management of faecal sludge from these onsite systems has been grossly neglected, partially as a result of them being considered temporary solutions until sewer-based systems could be implemented. However, the perception of onsite or decentralized sanitation technologies for urban areas is gradually changing, and is increasingly being considered as long-term, sustainable options in urban areas, especially in low- and middle-income countries that lack sewer infrastructures. This is the first book dedicated to faecal sludge management. It compiles the current state of knowledge of the rapidly evolving field of faecal sludge management, and presents an integrated approach that includes technology, management, and planning based on Sandecs 20 years of experience in the field. Faecal Sludge Management: Systems Approach for Implementation and Operation addresses the organization of the entire faecal sludge management service chain, from the collection and transport of sludge, and the current state of knowledge of treatment options, to the final end use or disposal of treated sludge. The book also presents important factors to consider when evaluating and upscaling new treatment technology options. The book is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, and engineers and practitioners in the field who have some basic knowledge of environmental and/or wastewater engineering.
