Download or read book Classic Memoirs (Classic Reprint) written by Charles V and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Classic Memoirs IN former editions of this work the Autobiography was followed by Letters from Switzerland and Italy. But a translation of Goethe's Annals, as he called his con densed journal, having been accomplished by Mr. Charles Nisbet, it was thought best to append this to the more important autobiographic work, and to transfer the letters to other volumes. Those from Switzerland are now printed with the Campaign in France, Siege of Mainz, and the rhine-tour, whilst the Italian letters have been supplemented by the second part of the Tour in Italy, making therewith one complete volume, thus carrying out the original intention, though in a somewhat different manner, announced in the former edition of this volume. It had never occurred to her that she possessed information which had not already been made public by the scores of irresponsible gossips who had been pry ing into the secrets of the Court and mingling their imperfectly ascertained facts with clumsily invented fictions. She objected that she had had no literary training, that she had kept no diary. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Pen, Pencil, and Poison by : Oscar Wilde
Download or read book Pen, Pencil, and Poison written by Oscar Wilde and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2022-04-06 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Pen, Pencil, and Poison’ is one of Wilde’s most intriguing essays. Part biography, part social commentary, and part philosophical debate, he writes the biography of an art critic, who was also convicted of murder. However, in true Wildean style, there’s more to the essay than meets the eye. While documenting the life and crimes of Thomas Griffiths Wainwright, Wilde explores the ideas of dual identity, sin in the formation of the personality, and the relationship between crime and culture. ‘Pen, Pencil, and Poison’ is a fascinating insight into some of the conventions of the time. Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) was an Irish novelist, poet, playwright, and wit. He was an advocate of the Aesthetic movement, which extolled the virtues of art for the sake of art. During his career, Wilde wrote nine plays, including ‘The Importance of Being Earnest,’ ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan,’ and ‘A Woman of No Importance,’ many of which are still performed today. His only novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ was adapted for the silver screen, in the film, ‘Dorian Gray,’ starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. In addition, Wilde wrote 43 poems, and seven essays. His life was the subject of a film, starring Stephen Fry.

Crary Memoirs and Memoranda The preface of a book is more of a matter of form than of any particular usefulness in getting at the facts contained therein. I propose, therefore, to sub mit this volume to you, kind reader, with the simple assurance that the design from first to last is to give Variety rather than Sameness, so as not to weary your patience with long drawn out Formula, which too often has a tendency to cause one to become impatient to arrive at the real pith of the argument, and in many cases to cause a person to throw a book aside before reading it half through. Part first contains Biography, Genealogy and Reminiscences connected with the Author's Civil and Military life.
