Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 60 pages with 55 sepia toned images. This work is ENTIRELY pictorial. Contains artistic nudity - For ADULTS ONLY This work is a study of the female nude in a classical form. It is ideal for those wishing to expand their knowledge of an artistic presentation of the female nude. For those who are interested in such things, all the images in this book were created with a Mamiya RB67 camera and 50, 90, and 127MM lenses. All images were shot using Ilford Delta iso 3200 film to enhance the grain and precessed in D-76 developer. The author began photography and photo-journalism in early 1963 when he accepted an offer from his local newspaper to write about and photograph sports events at the Arizona high school where he was a junior. After a stint in the service, he had an opportunity to study photography and printing techniques with Bernard Hoffman, a true gentleman and scholar, and one of the earliest staff photographers for Life Magazine. Since that time he has had thousands of photographs and hundreds of articles published by more than 60 national and international periodicals. He was also a contributing editor for one of them for more than ten years. Topics ran the gamut from professional sports, medicine, archeology, and photography to science. After twenty years away from Arizona he returned in 1985 and it has been the base from which all his photographic excursions are launched. Along with many others he has embraced digital photography but can still be seen, from time to time, peering through the ground glass of a large format camera, hoisting a large medium format 6x7, or indeed still using a 35mm film camera. The photographer currently has fine art photography on exhibit at The Center for Fine Arts in Globe, Arizona, and is currently represented by more than ten stock photo agencies where he has more than 13,000 photographs available for commercial use.

Book excerpt: Images of the nude human form are among the oldest art forms—from simple drawings, to grand statuary, to classic painting and contemporary photography, artists’ fascination with the human body has endured throughout time and across every form of creative expression. Within the pages of this book, accomplished fine-art nude photographer Jennifer Emery begins by presenting the key elements of lighting and posing the human body to best flatter the subject and express the desired design. With these fundamentals in place, she expands and elevates the practice of photographing nudes to develop more conceptual, fine-art looks that go beyond merely representing the subject and strive to communicate more complex ideas and aesthetics. As she demonstrates, fine-art nude photography can go far beyond a mere black backdrop and some interesting lighting. Full of color, motion, and style, Emery’s images spark intrigue, admiration, passion, and excitement!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gloriously illustrated examination of the origins and development of the nude as an artistic subject in Renaissance Europe Reflecting an era when Europe looked to both the classical past and a global future, this volume explores the emergence and acceptance of the nude as an artistic subject. It engages with the numerous and complex connotations of the human body in more than 250 artworks by the greatest masters of the Renaissance. Paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, and book illustrations reveal private, sometimes shocking, preoccupations as well as surprising public beliefs—the Age of Humanism from an entirely new perspective. This book presents works by Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, and Martin Schongauer in the north and Donatello, Raphael, and Giorgione in the south; it also introduces names that deserve to be known better. A publication this rich in scholarship could only be produced by a variety of expert scholars; the sixteen contributors are preeminent in their fields and wide-ranging in their knowledge and curiosity. The structure of the volume—essays alternating with shorter texts on individual artworks—permits studies both broad and granular. From the religious to the magical and the poetic to the erotic, encompassing male and female, infancy, youth, and old age, The Renaissance Nude examines in a profound way what it is to be human.

Book excerpt: A thoughtful introduction to art and its interpretation for children, with a sense of humor Why is Art Full of Naked People? is an irreverent and informative primer that asks tricky questions about what makes art art. What is with all the fruit? Why is art so weird nowadays? There are questions about how art views the world, from cave paintings through to Cubism, from the Renaissance to contemporary art, questions about different genres, including still-life painting, landscapes and portraits, and questions about the role and value of art in the past and today. Artists ask questions when they make art and viewers ask questions when they look at art; this book provides an engaging way for young people to explore asking and answering questions for themselves. The book is structured around twenty-two questions, each one tackled over two spreads. Through this provocative approach it offers an introduction to art history and a toolkit to enable young people to feel confident asking questions, searching for answers, and “reading” art for themselves.

Book excerpt: The image of the female nude has been captured in many different mediums - through paintings and illustrations and since 1850 in photographs. This book, "Vintage Nudes of Yesteryear" features sixty-five black and white photos of nude women produced generally between the years 1900 and 1923. The beginning of the 1900's was a time when social taboos began to disappear and nude photography began appearing in magazines, on postcards and in art instruction books. And of course, professional photographers also sold their works directly to the general public. There are a variety of beautiful images, in this book, featuring some of the best of the vintage photographic work of yesteryear.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Art and Pornography presents a series of essays which investigate the artistic status and aesthetic dimension of pornographic pictures, films, and literature, and explores the distinction, if there is any, between pornography and erotic art. Is there any overlap between art and pornography, or are the two mutually exclusive? If they are, why is that? If they are not, how might we characterize pornographic art or artistic pornography, and how might pornographic art be distinguished, if at all, from erotic art? Can there be aesthetic experience of pornography? What are some of the psychological, social, and political consequences of the creation and appreciation of erotic art or artistic pornography? Leading scholars from around the world address these questions, and more, and bring together different aesthetic perspectives and approaches to this widely consumed, increasingly visible, yet aesthetically underexplored cultural domain. The book, the first of its kind in philosophical aesthetics, will contribute to a more accurate and subtle understanding of the many representations that incorporate explicit sexual imagery and themes, in both high art and demotic culture, in Western and non-Western contexts. It is sure to stir debate, and healthy controversy.

I have always had considerable admiration for the great Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. Regardless of the opinions of others he continued with his photographic work despite enormous pressure (and penalty) from the outside world. His vision had been, and still is, unique even though little understood. This work is neither imitative or derived from my admiration of this unique individual. It is merely my vision of what I like to do; and that is simply to continue creating images regardless of the subject matter and regardless of the many positive and negative reviews thus far received from my many published works. It should be understood that this is a photographic work and is a visual presentation. Explanations and written interpretations are non-existent. The viewer is invited, and indeed, expected to form their own opinion either positive or negative. It is hoped that each image will be thoughtfully examined.

Book excerpt: Robert Farber is celebrated for his sensitive, sensual, often abstract nudes. But his preoccupation with natural forms extends beyond the human body: landscapes and flower studies have been among his most popular pieces, and also feature among the works published here. The technical proficiency fostered by Farber's background in commercial and fashion photography bestows an inimitably soft, grainy patina upon his increasingly simple, elegant, spare images. Light, color, tone, and composition are all carefully orchestrated to render a sense of stillness, silence, and peace. Whether presented as portraits or as abstract compositions, what these exquisite pieces have in common is their ability to provoke in the viewer a sense of quietude and contemplation. Painterly, textured, these masterly photographs prove that Farber's reputation as the doyen of mood is utterly deserved.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the name Champion Studio, Walter Kundzicz (b. 1925) became one of last of the great pioneers of physique photography when he entered the field in the late 1950s. Unlike the earlier oiled-and-posed demigods who graced the pages of the popular magazines of the day (Strength and Health, Muscle Power, Tomorrow's Man, The Young Physique and similar publications), Champion's handsome young models were a new breed. They were less often competitive bodybuilders and instead seemed more like the bad-boys-next-door that viewers secretly wanted to sneak a peak of in the locker room or fool around with under the bleachers. Kundzicz's images were bold and iconoclastic in their use of costumes, uniforms, props and vivid color. These photographs became wildly popular with mail-order customers and collectors because they stood in stark contrast to most of the physique photography available at that time. While Champion was at its peak in the mid-1960s, Kundzicz launched and published his own magazines, including Big and Go Guys, expanding and strengthening the Champion brand. His ability to create and market these colorful, campy images of handsome young men assured him of a loyal fan base that continues to grow even today, a half century after most of his iconic images were created. In his color photos of nude and semi-nude athletic men of the 50s and 60s, Walter Kundzicz pushed the societal taboos of his time and skirted the fringes of legality. In his Champion Studios he portrayed his toned and scantily clad models in delicate and playful postures that not only lived out and performed common homoerotic fantasies, but also perfectly captured the rigid but changing sexual climate in North America between the Kinsey report and hippy free love. Today Kundzicz is considered one of the best photographers of his genre, with his prints becoming rare collectibles. "Classic Male Nudes", Issue Two of GOLIATH WALLPAPER OF FAME, is dedicated to Walter Kundzicz's outstanding photographic work from this era, and includes a lifesized poster and nine XL-Posters, as well as an autobiographic text by Kundzicz himself. "Goliath Wallpaper of Fame" is a unique poster book collectible with large-scale prints of outstanding photographs, paintings or illsutrations from different artists or movements. Each issue includes interesting background information, for example, interviews and biographies, as well as nine XL- and one XXL-/lifesize poster.

Book excerpt: For over half a century, acclaimed photographer Ruth Bernhard has worked to "simplify, isolate, and give emphasis to form with greatest clarity" in her radiant photographs of the female nude. Now, with Chronicle Books' timely reissue of her best-selling volume, The Eternal Body, Bernhard's most evocative images are once again available in a superb collection, complete with an insightfill text, that pays tribute to a living legend. Hauntingly sensual yet classically reserved, the book's ethereal duotone photographs appear to be illuminated from within so that even the simplest lines of the human form -- a draped torso, a curved neck, an angled limb -- take on a complexity not often seen in work of this kind. A master artist whose technical prowess places her among the ranks of the greatest photographers of our time, Ruth Bernhard has created a masterpiece of expression and sensitivity in The Eternal Body.
